Pro tip. Run the drill in reverse when using a hole saw through soft materials. Insulation, siding, vapor barriers.

Kyle, Make sure that you run some CAT6 onto the ceiling so that you can have a couple of POE Wireless Access points. You can never have enough wireless coverage as the metal building will restrict exterior connectivity the farther you are. Same can be said for multiple CAT6 drops where you may want TVs or computers. If I could recommend any particular gear, take a look at Ubiquity. They make really good stuff.

Kyle, think about CAT6 wiring to all corners of the shop for installing security cameras to watch the exterior and interior of the shop with a hard drive storage i can personally recommend back street surveillance out of Utah , customer can put together the size and type of system you desire and they will help with any questions about the design.

CCTV systems are easy enough to install just don't expect *any* of them to be secure if you connect them to the internet. It's all chinese hardware/firmware that has been copied and cobbled together from god knows where.
@mclark522Сағат бұрын
Definitely agree on the wiring for cameras. You don’t want to be doing that after everything is closed up and wireless cameras suuuuuck. Not everything should be WiFi even if it can be. I’ve installed hundreds of POE cameras and (as long as it’s a good manufacturer) didn’t have a single issue for many years. Never been able to say that about battery or WiFi cameras. Nobody watches the cameras 24/7 and it always bites you when a camera goes down right when you needed it so I’d stick with ol’ reliable.
@mclark522Сағат бұрын
@@Foche_T._Schitt You can firewall off most NVRs. Ubiquiti’s is my favorite for price/performance/reliability and you can just VLAN off the camera network. Don’t have to worry about stuff talking to China if it can’t talk to anything but itself.

Just use Blink. The batteries last a long time, especially when it isn’t a high traffic area. If you pop a flash drive in the home unit you can view every video from your phone. You can also run up to 50 cameras on one home unit.

They now have a clip that allows you to run multiple wires in a stack. Great for wall cavities so the wire stays in the center of the stud bay.
@Foche_T._Schitt2 сағат бұрын
Leave a little slack in those wires. Those Push-in cable connectors allow you to pull in more wire without opening the wall if the wires get damaged or snipped short. IIRC code requires the wire to be fastened within 12 inches of a metal box or 8 for a plastic box. But it doesn't say how much wire can be outside the box. I usually leave a U shape bend about the size of the palm of my hand outside the box.
@walteralexander195637 минут бұрын
Kyle you could split between surface and hidden on the com wires. Maybe go through ceiling just to wall then come out and surface mount to wall just behind track.

When I built my wood working shop 12 years ago I used EMT, metal boxes and 12 gauge wire for everything, if I need to add another 110V or 220V outlet it's easy and also no hole through any of the 4 walls.

dude, leave those beams exposed and cover ‘em with large square plate glass, mounted on the bay side with huge bolts… it would look stylish, allow viewing down into the shop and vice-versa and still offer a dust and sound barrier….
