Just a suggestion for drilling the tanks. If you can get a drill press instead of using a hand drill. It will enable you to make repeatable perpendicular holes without the side to side motion and inconsistent down ward pressure of the hand held drill. Also if you use this set up you could use a water pump to have a constant flow of water onto place you are drilling. It is like drilling tile or concert. Ask Dave and Quintin what they think. Good luck on your new fish room, and keep the vids rolling as I am enjoying your content!
@usaaddicts93462 жыл бұрын
Use an end cap for protection of the wood. Much more clean looking then a brick. And more stable. It’s still the wood that takes the force and not transfer to the brick.

Just a suggestion, for drilling your tanks, use blue painter's tape on the side that you will be drilling and put the piece of wood on the opposite side. By putting the wood on the opposite side, it will help with providing opposing pressure and not allow the glass to break while drilling. Thanks for the video!!

Congrats on starting the build. Looking awesome. Tip for drilling your tanks, if you put your drill clutch on maximum (you can stop it easily) while drilling the tanks, you're less likely to crack the tank if the core bit catches. I've done heaps of tanks and not cracked one yet (knocks on wood). Ps Dave's a legend. Good luck on the build and look forward to seeing the finished product.

So I'm looking at those wood racks for the tanks. Basically all of the weight of the water is on the nails that are holding the 2x4s to the side of the uprights. I'm not sold on the structural integrity of that setup.
@Gettingzzz2 жыл бұрын
The way they framed the racks is the same way a house is framed. If it can keep a roof over your head and millions of Australians, it can hold up some aquariums. These are actually over engineered and also nailed into the concrete with a 0.22 caliber nail gun. She’ll be right
@stevechamberlain5702 жыл бұрын
@@Gettingzzz much more weight per square inch on those racks vs a roof. The racks are definitely not over engineered. And the racks being spiked into the floor does nothing for holding up the weight.
@Gettingzzz2 жыл бұрын
@@stevechamberlain570 good opinion. Lol. They did a great job. Racks won’t shift while adding tanks/water/northern Australian weather events.

hey mate that doesn't look like it would have enough strength to hold the larger tanks. I'd add extra vertical timbers from the horizontals that the tanks will sit on, down the side to the ground. so that way the load is sitting on the ground and not just hanging off nails or bolts.
