Building my nesting dinghy, what went wrong?

I am so enthusiastic to build my own sailing and nesting dinghy,
I like to share how to build a dinghy using the plans/manual of B&B Yachting
In this episode I want to show what went wrong during the building of my nesting dinghy,
and what I would do different when I would build another one.

For the rudder nuts, remove them, drill a small hole through the bolt with quick release pins to make it easy to remove the rudder.

It means a lot to me that you are showing these things. One thing I was able to work out very much needed is first step making the base itself level. So all the build is aligned on the base that is also centered and marked for center. Otherwise when using a level what you make will be wrongly aligned. The dinghy itself level. If the base is level and the dinghy itself is level then any time the builder using a level it will align. Thank you again this video series is priceless really. Very good was able to watch it through this morning.

Hi I like the efforts you have put it. For ideas Please look at the: 1.rudder fitting o the optimist. 2. Center board bungy cord 3. Option of running the mainshee to the mast jam cleat off the centreboard housing.

I’ve enjoyed your video series on this boat. It has motivated me to give these plans a shot. As for your rudder problem, look for a piece of stainless flat bar bent at a 15° angle. This will act like a spring and capture the The top of your bottom pin. As your Rutter floats up it will bump against the flat spring.

Just found your channel and I love what I've seen so far. I've looked at several sailing dinghy designs that have a center-board trunk and you should consider making a plug for it. Think of a center-board that only goes down to the bottom of the hull and not beyond. This would help to keep water out of the boat when rowing, motoring, or sailing in shallow water. That's what other boat designers recommend. Love diy boat building.

Rudder Mount: Several builders of convertable sail-outboard dingys have resolved this by building a rudder assembly that mounts to th boat like the outboard. Either with clamps or through transom bolts. This way the pintles & gudgeons are permanatly conected togeather and and it comes apart at a transom plate. This is much easier to deal with when the boat is in the water.

A swivel that is bolted thru the transom and hangs freely naturally above the top pin of the rudder gudgeon would remove need for threaded pin
