Building My Own 18x33 Above Ground Pool IN GROUND

I mainly do home repairs and stuff like that, but I've got a customer that wants one of these installed. The hole is dug, just needs to be cleaned up a little and leveled out. I've never done a pool install plus it's just the wife and I. How many folks helped with the liner? I'm thinking that's goin to be the biggest problem

I replaced liners during the summers in college so I had some experience but it really depends what kinda liner. I bought the j channel, I think it’s called, so you don’t need coping strips and you don’t have to stretch it in. With that type, it was just me and my brother-in-law. Just get the liner in the pool and try to find the center of one of the curved sections of the pool. Start there and just work you way around hanging the liner and putting on the metal ring structure over it and screwing all the metal top plates in as you go. Once you got that it’ll hold itself up. Then you can start filling and kicking out the wrinkles. Then just put the top panels on while it’s filling and your good to go. Just to save you some headache, I’d recommend letting the water get just below (2-3 inches) the skimmer and return openings. If you cut it in too early, the water will pull the liner down more in that area and you could have an issue with your skimmer leaking. Good luck!!

Does the bottom rails sit right on the ground. Was the wall hard to install. Great video.

Thank you! They do sit on the ground. The bottom plate of each post sits on concrete pavers and the rails just run along the ground between them. The wall wasn’t hard but I had my in-laws help to unravel it. Took three of us altogether. I’d definitely recommend having at least three people to hang the wall.

Working on my pool, same size, almost the exact same kit, except my bottom plates on the radius are resin, not metal. I am also doing it mostly myself, how long did you have your uprights in the ground and set before you moved on in the build? I'd like to mine in and set, but it could be a week or more until I can get to the next step of the build. I am worried about the bare steel being exposed.

@@coltenlewis Thanks for the reply!! I'm about to put walls up this week. My base frame is the exact same as yours, do you remember how you managed the straps? You mentioned issues with yours. Mine seem to have quite a bit of excess slack between the uprights, when measurement from the track screw holes on each side is per the instructions. I feel like the uprights need moved apart almost 1/2" to reduce the slack in the straps, they seem like they are bulging up at least an inch at the current distance between uprights.

@@timmyd288 I did have some slack but my assumption is that the water is going to push everything apart anyway so as long as all your measurements are pretty dead on, you shouldn’t have any major issues. Just to be clear…this is my opinion and not advice!!! I “risked it” and I haven’t had any issues 😊

@@coltenlewis Did you measure from the screw holes or the inside of the track on the uprights? Looking at the measurements from your instructions in video, the distance between the two side walls and the corner to corner measurements are 1/2" inch greater than mine, which seems odd. Only difference is mine has 6 bottom plates on each radius instead of 7. The amount of slack I have in the straps currently is a bulge of like 2" high. I appreciate the feedback and your time for answering questions!

So, I’m lost on finding this radius. I measured out and found 2 measurements but the others are way off. How did you find the measurements for your radius around. This has me stumped.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to… you should be able to use the blueprints to find a center point of the radius and set the bottom plates to the measurements from the blueprint. They will move around a bit as you set the wall and stuff so you’ll have to continually play with it. I’m sure that won’t help, but I hope it does a litte

@@jorgeandrade20 yep! It’s an affordable kit and as good a quality as any other decent above ground. There are better ones but definitely worse ones as well. Just depends on your budget. But this one is definitely good quality for the price.

Where are you located? Does it get cold? I just bought the same size pool and I heard if you go that deep with an above ground pool in winter, when ground freezes it will push against wall. I'm wanting to do a semi inground like what your doing but a pool store said I should only go 24" in ground with it Like the videos, cause I have to do the same process. Appreciate the walk through your doing

I’m in Arkansas. Besides the last few years (cause they’ve been crazy), it usually doesn’t get too far below freezing for any amount of time; a few days to a week max at a time, so we don’t have a lot of deep freezing. Most of my pool is anywhere between 18” on one side to probably 36” at the deepest depth. With all that being said, I’m obviously not familiar with really cold weather, but if you keep water in the pool over the winter and close your pool properly, I’d imagine you wouldn’t have too many problems. That’s definitely not advice, just my opinion. Thank you for watching. I hope my videos can help in some way!

All I know to say is to use the seams on the bottom to line the the liner up and start in the middle on one of the ends. Then just slowly work your way around the pool putting the top rails together as you go.

Nah…I’m all for safety, but I’ve been around tons of above ground pools in my life; most of which (if not all) were NOT grounded. It just seems like an unnecessary expense. Now if you plan to be running some lighting or water heater, I don’t think it would be a bad idea. I have overhead lighting off the house and the only thing electric connected to the pool is the pump, so fingers crossed, we don’t get shocked! And I only speak for above ground pools as I’ve not been around a lot of in grounds, however, I do think it’s common practice for those types. Hope this helps.

Please bond everything don't take chances with your life, I have the same exact pool 2ft in the ground with a deck surrounding it. I ran a 8ft copper rod in the ground 5ft from the pool and bonded the pool ,pump and I also Installed a heater which is also bonded. Please take the extra time to keep your family safe.

I am not saying that this guy didn’t do it or think of doing it, but you gotta make sure it’s not only level but make sure that the polls are the same length apart otherwise you get that strap waving so where the straps are waving one sides gotta goout more

Guys it looks good, but never do this. Your walls will rust out and the bottoms plates and rails will be gone so fast. We install our pools on a concrete ring that no part of the bottom ever comes into contact with dirt
