When they measure the cripples, I think that is determined. The pad is not flat and the upper deck must have pitch
@johannes.f.r.10 ай бұрын
Yes, that would be the logical thing to do. Makes everything easier after that and gives you more flooring options. You could glue down PVC in the whole thing, saves you from tiling the bathroom floor.

Pro tip Chalk your lines and then paint with clear paint to keep your lines visible when using water to cut. I have used this same practice with footers and works amazing!!!

Clear spray paint chalk lines! Drill 3/4" holes for 5/8" rebar dowels in trench & epoxy them in, then run 2 - 5/8" rebar lengthwise in trench. Make dowels as long as the trench is wide + the depth of the dowel penetration (18" + 6" =24" dowel and 6" bend @ 30 degrees), then bend the dowels at 30 degrees to fit them in to meet the other side rebar, like diagonal ladder rungs. This is the only way to get full penetration and good overlap. 30 times the diameter of 5/8" rebar is 18.75" of overlap.

Hi, interesting idea to easily gain spase in a house. I would not only put a vapor barrier on the floor, but also some 4x8 hard foam board to insulate the floor. This concrete slab will suck down the cold in the winter and the warm in the summer making this space a special hell to keep it conditionned. It will also absorb some of the unevenness (if this is a word) of the floor out of the equation. You can then put your laminate floor directly up on it. This is what i did when i finished my basement in my house and i've seen a big difference in the heating bill.

If you want to make sure you dont have water issues with rain collecting against the siding you could cut slots parallel to the wall all the way around like 6 inches apart and slots that start one inch away from the wall out to the lawn all like an inch deep, it should help direct water away from the wall.

Thermall break on slab! Floor will always be a different temp with that much of the slab outsinde the wall. Two layers of foam on the concret, then plywood. Matt Risinger did this in his home. You can use floor leveler on the slab to correct interior flatness/level for the slab! On the exterior by some good latex additive from Mapie or latticrete. Use the latex to mix your mortar as well as a bonding coat to the slab and slope the cement away from the building 1-1/2 to nothing. I suggest a dry mix similar to a shower base mortar. 5 to 1 mixed with the latex! Don't forget to power wash slap prior to and applications of bonding products. Your doors ,windows, plumbing fixtures all need to taken into account for the change in floor elevation if you install two layers of foam and plywood.

I watched a tear out of a 20 x 20 covered porch room that had the concrete extending out 16" past the exterior walls. The rain puddled during rain and it rooted out the bottom 18" of the entire two 18' walls. It was a total mess. I hope you can prevent water from rotting out the bottom of the walls. It took 15 years to realize the water damage. They cut groves in the concrete every two feet to channel the water that landed on the slab away from the slab...

Wow I remember you mentioning how well built the house was in your other projects! Isn't it a wonderful experience remodeling a well built structure, with a great foundation. 3inch slab by a production builder,cracked concrete and sinking posts. We contractors complain about poor structural practices,and seldom point out work well done. I would recommend doing something for the bottom plate ,wicking all the moisture from the entire slab.

Interesting method. Definitely cost effective. I dont know if an inspector would allow an extension like this in our jurisdiction without removing that stone wall. Which makes sense when you think about it - there just isnt a good way to properly close up the building envelope against that stone. You can probably half ass it with gobs of insulation, lexcel and profiling whatever siding you have to fit, but.... Its easier to do this stuff in a milder climate. In zone IV/V, you'd probably end up with a cold and drafty wall at a minimum. It would be interesting to see a before/after blower door test. Thanks for sharing
