That is a crazy clever idea - you could even turn it into a hugelculture bed by filling it with brush and branches first, then topping it off with soil. Also, that weed that you had your daughter pull at the end is lambs quarter. It's edible and really delicious - you just use it as you would spinach.

We live in our downtown and have a very small yard, we gave up some space to put in a 4ft x 12ft raised bed and crammed it full of bell peppers, tomatillos, tomatoes, cucumber and zucchini. I envy all your space, lol. If tomatillos can grow in your area, I would try them next year, they are a fun no to low maintenance plant and the kids loved them since the start as flowers and grow in husks like golden berries (they come in green or purple or even a smaller mini version called a pineapple tomatillo). 3 plants will give you a ton of fruit, I just roasted off 2 commercial cookie sheets of them for chile verde. Anyway, I love the series. Jadyn & I watch every upload. Keep up the great work!

Hey, brilliant! Last year I was pressed for space on a rocky hillside, and use an old army of galvanized trash cans with bottom drainage holes and organic soil. Things went marginally well, but perhaps removal of the bottoms is the way to go. Also, the pumpkin vines burned agains the rims of the cans. I have to come up with something.

You can use pipe insulation to soften the edges so the vines don't break. we had pumpkins and they did amazing.

I wanted to get this off my chest. I've watched all the videos on this channel and want to do something like what you are doing in the future. Can I ask if you did go to college, if so what did you study, if not how did you learn all the stuff you needed to build a cabin and all these other things (essentially building a really nice log cabin in the middle of the woods). The reason I'm asking is that I'm about to be in college soon and really love the outdoors like the Wooded Beardsmen. Then when I saw the first video of the log cabin being built, I knew that would be fun to watch but also build. I would like to do something along the lines of what you are doing on Modern Self Reliance but also do what The Wooded Beardsmen is doing as well. Thanks for these videos you have been making and keep up the hard work.
