Book 1, Chapter 61- First off, I want to apologize to my family and co-workers for the nature of this week's thumbnail. Everyone else, please enjoy my butt. This probably won't happen again. #yetibutting
Last week we gave you a little teaser on our refrigeration setup... this week, we're diving in FULL MONTY! Building our own ice box from scratch by using vacuum insulated panels, foam two ways, fiberglass, and you guessed it... that magical goo we know and love... epoxy!
Hang tight as we make our way through building a box better than a YETI.
Cheers!

There probably is and I genuinely feel bad for abusing it. However, I also feel like this could be a fun experiment 🤔

LMAO same here. I can't get past the price of premade VIPs, so I look up diy VIPs and BAM. My wife is the one that specifically pointed this video out, as if I didn't notice.

For future reference dont use regular or big gap filler foam, it will expand unevenly and aggressively. Poly foam in a can can expand between 30-70psi, You should use the low expansion window spray foam instead since it will still give you the seal but will not deform as aggressively its still closed cell, but the foam itself is a little softer. Another good option - if your local stores carry is spray construction adhesives or subfloor spray foam adhesive, which are both low expansion foams but much higher density and stick to just about everything extremely well.

Thanks! That is solid advice. It was a little alarming how it expanded during the process.

so great to know this source of cheap vacuum panels which I want to use as a means of sound proofing my engine compartment. And for food storage on boats you need to learn about pickling and vinegar because freezing is WAY overrated for meat, vegetables and fish and anything but just beverages and fresh stuff, lettuce and salad greens. You will find that pickled meat is delicious and even great raw instead of needing cooked. You probably know about it if you are experienced sailors,

I’m so glad you suggested that. I LOVE PICKLES AND PICKLED THINGS (Kell) Chris also bought me a vacuum sealer for my birthday a few years ago that we should really start experimenting with as I only have experience with canning. Good luck with your engine room project! What are you running?

The insulation works great! The condenser is a little too undersized for freezing such a big box but as a fridge it's swell.

The video says 1 year old. How did it work out so far?
@ChrisandKellNowHere
@ChrisandKellNowHere Жыл бұрын
It's working well! It runs about a third of the time. We put a insulated partition and half of it holds freezer temperatures in the single digits Fahrenheit, and the other half holds cold refrigerator temperatures in the upper 30s.
