Our first garden was a pallet garden. It rocked! We grew so many veggies in such a small place.

garden fabric will just help to hold your soil in place. It won't stop the wood rot. Either way we love ours and will be making more.

Off topic, but have you done a top 10 on dancing homesteaders? If not, of course there's Cog Hill Farm, but another good one would be Bobblehead Homestead. He has at least two really good recent ones. Thanks.

OK, I get that. Well, I've never seen anybody do a collaboration on sharing your best or worst dance moves. I don't know. Maybe not highly related to homesteading. But, there are lots of homesteading events worthy of the happy dance.

I’m assuming these are all marked HT for heat treated? Otherwise they may not be safe to plant in due to chemical treated wood.

Nice design, however: 1. Never use pallet wood to grow something edible. Pallet wood is chemically treated. The chemicals can leach intk the soil, into the plant, and you can get cancer. 2. With good wood, like cedar, if there is not a bottom gap, drill drain holes. 3. With woods, like cedar, its always a good idea to have a moisture barrier betseen soil and wood. This slows down wood rot.

Ummm, how do I say this nicely? May be watch Doug and Stacy, or Starry Hilder on using pallets for edibles: it's a nono! To many are chemical infected due to what was transported on them, though yours look clean. Just be careful if you put Edibles in there! Please!

+Family Explorations - thanks for sharing!
@kleineroteHex6 жыл бұрын
Family Explorations it's good they mention stains in that website!!! But I have become weary of pallets because you never know what was on them. I'd use oes that had tvs, washing machines etc on them, but I know chemicals and other toxic residue can be invisible. Just be cautious with pallets, people, that's all 😉
@roundmott6 жыл бұрын
You just described why I no longer subscribe to Doug and Stacy's channel. In the first place, no reasonable person would think of using a pallet as a planter that was obviously stained with chemicals, smelled like chemicals, etc. In the second place, if done correctly, the wood will either be sealed with a sealant that is safe for food, or covered with garden cloth or both, so the chance of contamination is reduced to near zero even if some mysterious invisible undetectable deadly chemical was present. To hear the talk one would think that chemical companies are allowed to just ship their chemicals in open containers that splash everything around them with poisons that are just waiting for the next homesteader who wants to save a few bucks on their next verticle garden. Sorry, I don't buy into that nonsense. Last I heard all chemical companies have to ship in sealed containers.
