You are one of the most organized people I know. Even reorganizing a new shop is well put together.The warm fall weather is something I remember well from my formative years living in California. Now living in Arizona, fall weather is sometimes quite warm. Take your time setting up your new shop. It will be exactly the way you want it. Not to mention need it.Always take puppy petting breaks! They are good for you as well as your furry friend.

Just moved into a new and larger space myself. Previous garage space that I was allowed to use was probably 7x7. Now I have a whole single car garage to myself!! Also couldn’t salvage any of my old workbench so everything is being remade. Very excited and happy to get a little unintentional push to start the work. Just need to let my new tattoo heal up some more before I start wiping sawdust all over it 😂 Also thank you for the unintentional reminder to get a fire extinguisher and med kit. They are now on the top of my shop supply list.

Elena, i had the same miter saw, but i had to get rid of it because of the slide. Sticking out so far you are limited as to where you keep it, as you know. I wanted to build a long miter saw shelf up against the wall but couldnt with that saw. So i sold it a bought the Metabo HPT, and i love it! Hopefully 1 day you will have a much bigger garage to work out of, but you are doing a great job with what you have to work with. Housing prices in California are absolutely ridiculous. I can guarantee with what you're paying for that house, you could get a 3000/sqft -3 car garage in Texas! Anyways, great job once again.
@elenamakesАй бұрын
California housing prices are truly the bane of my existence but, unfortunately for me, I like it too much here and close to all the people I know and love are here. Maybe someday I can afford a small house with a larger garage but, until then, this lil shop will do :)

A suggestion, I put my miter saw in a sliding base, turn it to 55 degrees or your max either lelf or right to store it when not in use. When in use, I pull it forward (the saw will be cantilever) extend the folding legs and there you have it….😅

Enjoy the new workshop! , workshops don’t have to be massive, here in the UK most garages are much smaller, but I’ve converted mine into a Workshop recently and if you check it out, you’ll see I’ve managed to cram so much in, you just have to think and sometimes juggle things around but you’ll be amazed how much you can get into a small workshop😊 I will keep watching to see how you get on 👍🏼

Nice job. Don’t know how often it gets used but the ladder could be stored high on the wall lengthwise to be out of the way and free up that corner.

I have the same miter saw and although its great quality, it's a pain to store. If you turn it to 45 degrees and take off the dust bag, it is shallower and easier to store though

Nice work on the setup -- effective use of space. :) I have everything on wheels as well, for the same reason. :P As for the tire marks on the wall, my guess is that someone rolled a dirtbike or similar on it before they put it up. I know I've seen that with boot prints or tire marks on drywall. Enjoy the new space!
@outlet6989Ай бұрын
Hi Elena, To put it mildly, you need more space, and so do I. I have a two-car garage and thought I would never need more space. I was wrong. My solution was to place a metal 8' X 16" shed in my backyard. This would be your ideal solution if you have the funds and a backyard.
@elenamakesАй бұрын
We'll see how it goes but a shed in the yard is a great idea if I find I need more room.
@outlet6989Ай бұрын
@@elenamakes Thank you for your reply. This is a long comment, so bear with me. As a DIYer, one can't have too much room to work in. I thought a shed would give me the room I wanted. I was wrong because I kept buying new tools and yard equipment. If I saw a new tool that would make a DIY project easier, I bought it. I had my shed built with a six-foot-wide roll-up door, two side windows, seven-foot walls, and a large side door located at the rear of one side. For power, I equipped the shed with 50amp electric service to power my 220-volt electric tools. I placed a cold/heat window unit in one of the shed's two windows to keep me comfortable. As you can see, fitting out my shed became one large DIY project, and I'm still working on it. Please let me know if you would like more comments or suggestions.

Having to downsize your shop stinks, but with a smaller space it can help you learn how to use a smaller space more effectively. I'll be learning that soon as my shop will be getting a bit smaller. Elena, the new shop looks like it can/will work out nicely for you 😊. However I do have one question about American homes (I’m a Brit) and that is do American homes not have attic spaces? The reason I ask is because of all the shelf space being taken up with your storage totes for camping etc. because couldn’t you store it in an Attic space to create more room in the garage to give you more build/worktop area if it wasn’t all in there?
@elenamakesАй бұрын
Thank you. Some homes have attic spaces here but not all and, unfortunately, our home does not have a storage attic or basement space. We have some closets in the house, but that's it.

when you build your workspace, do you leave any part of the build behind? in the idea of " better than you left it?" or is it considered unnecessary?
@elenamakesАй бұрын
I mostly take everything / put it back the way it was before moving out since most places prefer that, but I did a lot of cleaning / patching up holes in the wall of the garage that were there when I moved in so it's in a bit better shape from when I moved in.

While on one side I really enjoy your Workshop setup videos (somehow they are always so calm), I REALLY hope you stop making new workshop videos for a while by staying at one location for a bit and actually find time to USE it 😅👍 I am however a bit intrigued that you'd put the tarp to the attic on the TOP side of the opening. I would've put it on the bottom end, simply to keep it from getting in my way when accessing the attic and also have a visual cue when I forget to close it again (as it would hang right in my face lol) All the best from Germany!
@elenamakesАй бұрын
Haha me too! I hope this is the last new workshop setup video for a bit. I considered both options with the tarp closure but I thought putting it below the opening would have it hang slack in some places and create gaps in the “seal”. Putting it on top allows it to lay flatter and creates a better barrier against dust, at least that was my thought process.
