We have moved in the new house and it is time to start planting so herbs! Follow along with us as we prepare the soil, and plant our herbs and add mulch for a herb bed fit for a kitchen chef.

Nice size herb bed, thank you for the expanded shale and pecan shell mulch tips. It is always so great to get back in the garden after winter and the anticipation of spring and what it will bring is half the enjoyment. Have fun!

Using pecan mulch in your garden will really help to lower your ph. Earth worms really love it also.

One piece of advice, don't mix any soil amendments into the soil. All the organic matter will trickle down into the soil whenever it gets watered or rained on so mixing it is just a waste of time and energy. Its best to just loosen the ground with a strong fork and then add amendments on top and over the years with all the watering the soil will be improved lower down.

Oh my gosh..I am so excited!! I have watched your Great Garden videos through the years when you were in Dallas they inspired me with my garden. My garden was not as big as yours was. But I would try to follow your planting times or when to start the seeds. You had a huge Harvest!! I subscribe to your channel to get updates ..so I am just now checking this video and you are in Garland!! That is where I live!! So now your even closer so the weather will be the same. I am going to show my husband what you used to prep your herb garden. So now I can go and get my herbs and get them in the ground. Looking forward watching more of your garden videos..Thanks for Sharing!!! Happy Growing!!!🐛🍊🍄🌶🌽🍆🍅🍓🍒🐜🐝🌻🌼🌻🌼🌻🐝🌻 Blessings to you and your Family.. Little one has grown so much..🌞

V Schilling Thanks for watching. Our old house is only 3 miles down the road. So the weather will be the same, but what has changed is the amount of sunlight we may get. Stay tuned.

Hey, Brandon! Congrats on the move! I'm sure you'll turn that yard into your veggie heaven in no time at all! Question: I have a similar bed built along a back wall of my house. It sits under the overhang, and stays moderately moist most of the time (no gutters on the overhang). I've got a curly leaf Kale plant that just LOVES being in this bed, which gets several hours of bright light, but, no full on sun. My home faces east. By about noon, the sun is directly overhead, and setting toward my back fence. I've been trying to plan what I can put in this bed, and had been thinking about herbs. But, everything I've read says herbs need lots of full on sunlight. Soooooooooo....how much sun will your herb bed get?

+Gymgirl lja Well... I think my herb bed will get morning sun, my herb bed is facing east as well, big BUT I'm taking a big chance because I'm not sure about sunlight when all the trees get their leaves. This year will be a big trial & error. This herb bed is also under overhang with gutters, so may not get much rainwater. I am having to rethink gardening in this house because I am not expecting any full sun with all the huge trees.

Bummer on the trees sucking up all your sunlight. I bit the bullet last month, and had the last, HUGE "trash" tree cut down. Sat right in the middle of the yard, and cast a loooooong shadow. Now, I have sunlight for days, LOL!
