First to reply, gets ya a bag of Trifectia. I bought several bags of dirt, and in one of them was a sprout. So we kept it growing to see what it was. It turns out to be basil. Glad that it was there, because I use it a lot. Now Luke since I've been disabled veteran and looking for things to do with my time. I will have to say that your videos has really got me motivated to start a garden. Although all that I have is a small condo, I'm growing everything in containers. I do have to get a bag or two of your Trifectia, but I do try everything from eggshell to Epson salt and coffee grinds to grow my plants. I even have a compost bin going now. Thanks for all your help and advice and getting me outdoors. Thanks for your help with the basil.

If you plan and think creatively then you can actually do a lot with a small garden. For instance I have planted a lot in my balcony and it is indeed small, I've got everything from herbs to vegetables decorated neatly. Just a tip for you to get going, lots of luck!;)

I just tried growing basil this year (from seed), and now they are huge plants! I have a normal looking basil plant that keeps growing up, and really the only problem I've started having is that the grasshopper babies are on my plant. But I love how easy basil was to grow! I'm very excited to harvest and dry the basil before heading back to college. Thanks for the video!

I saved 3 grocery store basil bunches and I’m growing them outside and they’re doing really well. I’ve had them for 2 months. They’re responding well fertilizer. I live in Phoenix, AZ where it super sunny most of the year so they’re loving it. I’ve pruned them twice so far, the leaves are so big they look like spinach, and they smell sooo sweet. I’m currently propagating 3 cuttings that I want to nurture to be full plants that I’ll let flower because I want the bees to come, and then I’ll have my original 3 basils that I’ll use for food.

my husband and I are starting our growing business as well. I got my husband into it. Mine was just a hobby and growing organic for my dad's use. WE are from L.A., but we were living in MS when my dad came to me very ill... I live approx 35 miles from the nearest ASIAN MARKET. I was driving there 3x/weekly. I decided to save on gas and travel by growing the veggies my dad eats. Keep in mind, this began as a hobby.... One day, my husband came to me and said, "this is no longer a hobby. it's an addiction and we're turning it into a business. here we are today!!! I started selling from my yard, since I cant hold up a job due to MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS and taking of my elderly father. my husband, a retired NAVY/SEABEE, sold at the military bases on weekends. Now, that we moved to Nashville, I will be growing more here as well. When I need to know something about growing, you are one of the few that I watched the video and learned from. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us....

I "plate seeded" my basil, with a wet paper towel and plastic covered 5/2. Once it got a tiny bit bigger I carefully ripped the paper towel apart with tweezers and put each seedling, with paper towel still attached to tiny root into baby pots. Then on the window sill. It's end of June and they are now still only about 2 1/2 to 3 inches tall. I have never babied any plant so much in my life. It's taking forever!

Thanks for the vid. I always grow Genovese basil here in Sacramento. Hot and arid but I use drip sprinklers daily and it works out nice. I also like to grow lemon thyme year round and of course rosemary. All those go great with the tomatoes I grow. Back to the basil, yes, pinch off the flowers early and often for good leaf growth. To dry cut stems full of leaves and cut a hole in the end of a paper bag and push the stems thru and use rubber bands to tie then hang in the garage for a week. the bag keeps dust off the leaves, then you can pull leaves off dry stems and chop or use rolling pin to crush leaves for dried basil leaves to add to dishes.

Perfect timing for this post! This is the first year I have ever had any problems with growing basil. I have some of the standard sweet basil growing in large planters and they get at least 6 hours of sun. I recently noticed they are not growing too much and the color has changed to a light, bright green. I have grown it in the past without any issues, so I am thinking this may be a from a nutrient deficiency (nitrogen is my guess). I do plan to fertilize them, but would love to hear your thoughts! Thank you!
