Indeed a magnificent and enthusiastic modeller whom I gladly take my hat off to. And of course if you get it right a 3D printer is cheaper to start with, but in many countries you don't always have sunlight when you want it. So you buy 2 devices. I myself have started saving for the model railway, in the form of 2nd hand train sets and rails. The buildings are 95% new and then the difference is smaller than you think. The liquids for the printer are fairly pricey. And glue you need anyway. As well as paint to colour the kit. For a modelling friends club or association, I would definitely recommend this. Good luck everyone with this beautiful hobby. Greetings Antwan.

You can just as well cure 3d prints with a home-made curing box and a cheap UV light. And wash your resin prints in a small container. You don't have to buy all these accessories that 3d printer manufacturers want you to buy.

Hi! Saddly I couldn’t afford Model railroading without 3D-print. The 3D-printer reduces cost by 70-90% for everything except locomotives. I would prefer buying stuff in the shops, but the shops are closed. The prices have increased by x10 since 90s. It’s really sad and not good for the hobby.

Always a most relaxing and didactic view. Just wonderful inspirations here, and the station looks absolutely masterfully spectacular. May we share an experience if that's okay with you. To avoid paint bleed under the masking tape, it might be a good idea to apply some transparent varnish on the outer rim of the tape. That way, the paint won't bleed under it. It's not much of a problem if the bleed is going to be blended in with weathering of an old station though. It's just when you want a crisp line looking brand new or modern, the idea might be helpful. Great build that station Martin. Cheerio.

All good, thanks. I do FDM and resin but not skilled enough yet in CAD, so appreciate the available files. I use a heavier drug store tape to simulate canvas and will try the lighter type for roofing.

I will probably not buy any plastic or wooden parts in the shops going forward. It makes no sence producing styrene strips or bass wood sheets in US, sending them by air transport to Sweden and thereafter me taking the car to the shop buying a pack with parts I only partly need at x10 cost compared to 3D-printing the exact right part/quantity at home. This means that most videos (if not all) will contain 3D-print and/or laser cut from now on, even if it’s in combination with scratchbuilt parts. My idea of making how-to videos is show my audience the materials and methods I think does the job best.

This kit seems to follow the standards for joining and assembly established by the kit manufacturers in the 60s and 70s. Detailing is much better though. Availability too and price too. I haven´t seen a new Pola kit since the 80s when I was a kid.

Excellent but I have a question about the 3D printing. I read that resin printers are used but … has anyone tried these files with a FDM printer. I using a Flashforge 5M Pro that gives excellent detail results (for a FDM printer) because I don’t want the smell and disturbance of too many equipment.

@@marklinofsweden So … at last … I mannaged to slice one of the files but had to cut it horizontally to avoid too many supports. At first I used the Flashprint slicer (it’s capable of sending files via Wifi) but had a lot (and I mean a l o t ) of issues with stringing. Fortunatly I found a video about that subject and started using Orca as a slicer. The results are awesome.

Is the platform thin enough for C track?
@marklinofsweden
@marklinofsweden 8 ай бұрын
Hi! Hmm.. I’m not sure I understand what you mean by ”thin”.. the 54mm width is adapted/intended for standard C-track turnout with 70mm straight extension besides the 22.5 degrees curves. Regarding height. I would assemble the platform on a 6mm spacer to get nice height compared to the C-track

anything to build in N scale how do i reduce from HO to N scale 1/67 to 1/160
@marklinofsweden
@marklinofsweden 8 ай бұрын
Hi! 3D-models intended for 3D-print can be scaled to N-scale, but they will not print correctly. This while the smallest possible dimensions already been used to create the H0-scale model. Any further down scaling will result in failed print. So, in most cases N-scale items for 3D-print needs to be designed for N-scale from start.
@fodi123

Hi @@marklinofsweden Thanks for the models. Could you and your team add some more N scale designs to the mix as well? The catenaries are very good but some signals, buildings or structures would be stellar

Can someone help me out, i'm thinkin of investing money and buying a 3D printer, i checked out the Model Railroad 3D shop and i'm really interesting in buying lots of these models. The issue i have and don't understand is that i have N Scale. I was under the impression that 3D printing allowed us to resize things, so would these models work for N Scale? I don't want to invest in a printer if i can't use these models. Thank you in Advance!
@marklinofsweden

No, H0-scaled 3D-models cannot be downscaled and printed to N-scale. Sorry. They in general need to be designed to the correct size to print properly
