Fantastic video bro! You're absolutely right, if we share with each other on things that work as well as don't work we become a better more efficient community of fish keepers! Keep up the awesome work my friend, your videos are one of very few I enjoy watching for more than a few minutes! From beginning to end I really enjoy watching the entirety of your videos! Huge thumbs up!!!!!!

yolo wow I love you keeping it real for all of us...I didn't set-up a fish room per say but I have set up a double rack stand outside to hold 20 15 gallon tanks but I used a bunch of tanks I bought used or got from family that leaked or something but the work to get that done was crazy plus taking everything down before all my fish died was a another headache next year hopefully I will have a better plan to house the fish

Congrats on getting married! And thanks for the vids. Very helpful.I know you have a reason for using cinder block racks but if you're thinking about long-term I would have gone with wood, just to allow for expansion. Building standard wood aquarium racks would probably give you room for 2x or 3x more tanks. Slightly more work maybe but long term might be worth it.
@AquariumCoop9 жыл бұрын
+Iowa Discus I'm choosing cinder block so it can change as my needs change. I'm not building it to maximize how many tanks. With 1500 sqft dedicated building as a fish room. I could fit more tanks than I need. Plus I own a fish store where I manage over 100 tanks there as well. Plus have another on site facility I can setup as well by the store.. So I'm not sure I need over 100 at home. If I was trying to maximize tanks I'd put three rows of tanks in and put the tanks on their ends. As it stands now, just in the room I've been shooting videos in. There will be 24 20gs. 28 40 breeders. Plus there is two rooms not even utilized at that point. And one wall in that room that won't have aquariums on it. Also wood stands don't necessarily save space. They just change how the space is used. Sure I have 6 inch wide cinder blocks using up space. However, the verticles would instead be 3 to 3.5 inches wide depending on how you design the stand if you're bracing properly. Then you end up running the horrizontal 2x4s on edge for strength which means you're using 3.5 inches there between the rows of tanks as opposed to 1.5 inches with the way I'm running it. The reality is, on the stands i'm using at 10 ft long. I use 18 inches of space for upright supports. If I built it out of wood I'd be using 10.5 inches. So I'm losing 7.5 inches, to have a completely changable stand that can change in about 2 hours of work. It also builds much faster and cinder blocks interact with water better than the wood does if there is water on the floor.
@iowadiscus41879 жыл бұрын
+Aquarium Co-Op Gotcha. Very true about flexibility, you can't do much with wood racks once their built. And you clearly don't need the space, so that's not an issue either. I wonder if wood racks would survive an earthquake better? (how much of a problem is that where you live?) You could bolt them all together for additional stability and add ridges of some kind to prevent slippage. In any case, looking forward to seeing more of the room getting done!
@AquariumCoop9 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure which would survive better. I am on the west coast and there is always the threat of an earthquake. I am considering tying all the wood together to help support the blocks. As for a lip. The lip will help in an earthquake. But they collect water when catching fish/cleaning etc and is a big spot for black mold to start growing.. So it's kind of trading one thing for another.
@IAmTheSushiChef9 жыл бұрын
can you do a video on the cinderblock stands? i know it seems like rudimentary stuff but it would really help out. Thanks!
@AquariumCoop9 жыл бұрын
+MattTanks Definitely. I'll film when I setup the other side of this rack so I can talk about it.

My OCD could not handle the cinder blocks not all being turned the same way, with most flat and some with a slot.

Love the idea. Can you tell me the exact size of the wood strip and the type of wood. Does it need to be treated because of the water? And the size of the cider block. Thank you.
@AquariumCoop8 жыл бұрын
+elvis fernandes I believe all those questions can be answered in the video I made on how to make these racks. and treated wood isn't supposed to be used in doors because it off gasses.

Hey, so I know I'm another one of your videos you commented that grand plans tend to change, but I was wondering if you could do a video on how to design a fish room with an eye for space efficiency. For example, I've got a 12by13 room that I'm having difficulty planning out. I love the easy cinderblock setup you have, but I worry I would lose too much space in such a small room. I was thinking of mainly going with some 10 and a lot of 20 gallons for breeding, but it hard to justify not buying a 40 gallon breeder when the dollar per gallon sale is going on as they're obviously the same price per gallon. I was think of incorporating 40 breeders as growout tanks, but Rubbermaid totes are a lot cheaper and probably work at least as well. What are your thoughts? Could you possibly do a video on what to consider when designing a fish room?
@AquariumCoop8 жыл бұрын
+Rampaging Apostrophe maybe some day, but there are so many aspects. Type of fish, auto water change system? Plus many more will dictate what the best choices are.
@youngz13o9 жыл бұрын
Theres not a good video on youtube that explains how to plumb the auto drip system from start to finish. Please make a video on that! Some questions I always have are: 1. How do I tap off the cold water line 3. What equiptment you use?

Where do u get your tanks?
@AquariumCoop9 жыл бұрын
+Fish Tank Monster Well the best sources I've found is Petco $1 a gallon sale. Or buying a fish store that goes out of business. When buying tanks in bulk that way, 50 cents per gallon is the norm.
