Scanning the signs and changing them really made a huge difference. Another good tip, thank you. The lead flashing is so prototypically correct. The overall effect is just so amazing. The rafter tails really make the whole roof just come alive; if you get my meaning. Cutting up the roof corrugated bits up made a huge difference !!!! The way you weather these buildings beggars belief. I think now that I must buy some buildings and have a go before I attempt the ones on the layout. You are truly inspirational. Just in case anyone else reads this I have to agree with you that reading the instructions from start to finish before even attempting the build is so, so, important. If you find a bit that you cant understand then read it again and then take it slow when you get to that bit and it will probably just fall into place. Happy Building everyone. lol

Another detailed and beautiful job. I learn a lot from you. I don't know if I'm being redundant, but I wanted to talk about a little trick I have for scoring cardboard and creasing folds. I use pens of different thicknesses, without ink, to grade both the grooves and the creases I want to make. The ball of the pens tip does not "hurt" the paper, as they run freely. hugs

I want to say that he is willing to have visitors at the shop, I'll have to contact him and see if that's the case and how to set up an appointment for a visit. Would enjoy seeing his setup! Alcohol staining is the best way to do it .I been doing Alcohol staining for over40 year that all i use i make my own stain and use different Alcohol % and all 4 type that are ethyl, denatured, isopropyl and rubbing with Ink and shoe leather dye.I change the Alcohol % to 70-99% the higher % for faster drying time

Z bar and a 4x4 " L" counter flashing...is whats used to seal roof to wall transitions...or you just roll the roofing up under the z- bar flashing...your layout is so awesome...you and doug are the best of the best...

I'm hooked on your ability to turn the most common things like construction paper, styrofoam and cardboard into a realistic town, so I've subscribed. One thing though, why does nobody in the town ever paint their homes or businesses? Maybe you talked about it at the beginning of the project, and I've missed it. Is it in the middle of a depression or maybe a post-apocalyptic collapse (that would be cool if you had zombies wandering the streets).
@JasonJensenTrains2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so very much!!! The layout is set during the Great Depression but I absolutely love making things look old and run down. That’s my enjoyment from the hobby! Thanks for watching!!! 👍

Was the 1/8" stock included in the kit? Fos Scales often lists it as an add-on.

Yes, it’s included. I always recommend buying extra. It’s always nice to have extra 1/8 wood for bracing.

As always another great build started. As always took away 2 more technics to work with (the hits just keep coming) on future builds. Thought I was done with the roof on the saw mill but third video showed me a detail I was lacking. Question do you ever use lighting on your buildings, you do on the si-fi build... ? I also wonder those who leave comments read others leave.

I always appreciate it Will!!! No lights on my HO scale models. Only on the sci-fi models. Thanks for watching!!! 👍

Jason have you ever tried rice paper for your signs ? It ts very thin and would save you all the sanding.

No, but thanks for the suggestion! I will definitely try that. THANKS!!!
@tudrow60872 жыл бұрын
@@JasonJensenTrains I taped it to a thick sheet of paper om the corners and run it through the printer. It's so thin so it needs a backer but works great.

You may already know this little trick... but you could also make your own real rust pigment by taking a fine steel wool pad a little bit of white vinegar and a splash of bleach. let it soak for a couple days it will break down the steel wool you then pour that out into a coffee filter and you'll have a rust sludge you let that dry for a few days and you have real rust pigment simply apply by using a spray bottle of water sprinkle your pigment on there let it dry knock off the excess then a matte clear coat
@JasonJensenTrains2 жыл бұрын
I’ve read about that technique but have never tried it! Maybe some day. Thanks for watching!!! 👍

Noticed that your techniques are evolving Jason... I see you've started priming the plastic window and door castings with solvent based spray primer. In the past, when I saw you brush painting acrylic craft paint over the plastic castings, I wondered if you had issues with adhesion. Did you notice this, or is priming with spray paint for another reason? Also... Using pigments over slightly tacky paint is a great technique. I've used that in the past to add rust and dust accents with pastels over 3D printed "metal" parts and with the paint being tacky, I'd noticed that the pastel adheres a lot better and the effect is easier as well.
