I think the “z” is a great idea… I know there are colored screws to show inspectors the correct screw was used in some cases… so with the pressure of the roller being such a crucial step, then there should be quality assurance…

Zip panels are intended to be installed as sheathing and then covered with exterior cladding.

I keep see vids about Zip but I can't figure out why people think its better than Tyvek. Its more expensive and osb as sheet is total crap. I'll stick with plywood and Tyvek.

There are lots of reasons to use ZIP over Tyvek: quality of WRB, the speed of install, and the air seal. The panels are not made of cheap OSB, they use very strong glue in their boards, which make them a particularly sturdy sheathing panel. They seal much better than Tyvek too, which can rip during installation or in heavy windy. Since ZIP is a sheathing panel and WRB all in one, you don’t have to go around the house twice, like you do with Tyvek. You just tape as you go. This saves time and ultimately money. Even though the panels and the tape are more expensive than plywood and Tyvek, you should save money in labor costs.

@@DealerTags its not faster. It takes time to tape it and the wrb doesn’t worrk when you overdrive nails. you have to go back and tape all of them too. The tape is expensive.

@@nicholaspappagiorgio6103 You’re totally right, the tape is not cheap and overdriving nails will compromise the WRB. There are easy fixes for that though. Just buy a cheap regulator for your nail gun, like he has in the video. Then you can set your gun to the right PSI and you won’t overdrive nails. Problem solved for $20. Also, you can use a liquid flash over overdriven nails and won’t have to buy extra tape.
