I want someone to love me the way Louis loves his electric planer 😰

Hey Lou amazing to see my friend and I like all the paint tips in the table saw fence tips I would highly recommend no long sleeves near the table saw you know in the past how those have been some horrific injuries and you know all the people watching this may not have heard those stories definitely no fabric bracelets necklaces anywhere near that saws or moving machines

I greatly appreciate your willingness to share your life's experiences. I can relate to your skills. I started out 1968 as a tool and die apprentice. I am 70 and working as a tool design engineer. When all is said and done they just need some one who knows how to make things. It takes a lifetime to be able to do that. So I greatly enjoy your skills and craft

I thought that Total Boat stopped supporting your channel. I hope that's changed. Proper use of a roller takes some experience. People tend to roll too much paint out of the roller before picking up the next roller full. This of course gives them too thin and splotchy application. Also, once an area is nice and evenly covered, leave it alone, don't roll back over it with your roller that's low on paint or else you'll pick paint back up off that section which you don't want to do. I always learn something from watching your videos. The pencil on the side of the ruler trick is a great idea. I'll borrow that!

I’ve used epoxy barrier coat on my boats. Great product. If applied fairly thickly that becomes your final fairing layer. It sands off easily, coming of in a dusty form, leaving a velvety finish for the final coat to adhere to. And given its epoxy based you can even apply thin layers of epoxy fairing compound over the barrier coat if you find a low spot somewhere you missed before painting. ( which are a lot easier to find once you’re dealing with a uniform finish ). I’m talking about gossamer thin layers on a few missed spots here of course. Obviously you want 99.9% of the fairing compound under the paint. I then touch up the barrier coat again before the final polyurethane finish coats. I’ve achieved some very nice results using this technique.

I'm a Home Improvement carpenter of 40 years, used an electric plane a few times, but I've never seen anyone use it to the extent that Lou does! He's a regular magician with that thing! He's even modified it for his personal use. Truth be told, they sometimes scare me and I'll pick up a hand plane before I use the electric one for fear of ending up with a piece of kindling. Great work Lou! Keep those videos coming!

One tip I learned from an old time airplane painter was when you pour the paint out of the can don’t pour on the side with the mixing instructions and part number, that way the next day you still have those instructions readable.
@janpavelkovar7815 Жыл бұрын
HI, After taking some epoxy training the tool to use for mixing best is the paddle mixers that attach to the cordless drill, although mixing with a paddle mixer has to be careful not to inrich bubbles into it.

Acetone can get mixed with water so you can dilute the acetone or add acetone to water to help clean the surface for prep, prior to painting. Try the plastic lips that fit over the 1 gallon buckets of paint they allow you to pour easily without dripping. Boxing paint was a term used to take leftover paint (same color) and mixing it with the new paint so it blends together and you don’t need to toss the paint. The term I’m guessing was taking the paint buckets that are shelved on low profile 2” cardboard boxes lids and then combining them. It’s a safe guess that mixing the paint or a two part epoxy would be boxing the material. Thanks great videos.

Funny thing, you said you push the stock with your back hand and only guide it with your front hand when ripping on the table saw. I was taught to do it that way and automatically do it that way without thinking about it. I have always said that understanding your tools, understanding what you are cutting, respecting both of them, but not being afraid of them is the best way to stay safe. I walk away from any saw that I am "not comfortable with". The worst thing that you can do is use a tool that makes you uncomfortable, there is usually a reason you are uncomfortable. And always respect your tools.

I recently discovered that red oak is the equal of white oak in strength, and furthermore that it can be pressure treated very successfully. THAT is what should be done with red oak these days. It would make it ideal for marine purposes and make a really first rate deck lumber for porches and outdoor decks.

I don't get it either. It's just a small wooden boat. However, I don't get the Mona Lisa either. But how could I? It's just a painting of a plain woman's face and I'm just an unwashed plebian. You can't row it. You can't store clothing in it. But apparently millions of people like looking at her and pay millions of dollars every year to to go see her in the Louvre.

I see in your videos that you use epoxy resin for your glass. Can polyester resin also be used to bond glass to plywood?
@mckenziekeith74343 жыл бұрын
Epoxy sticks much better. But polyseter was used for many years. It can work. There is also vinyl ester resin. You use it about the same way as polyester, but they say it sticks a little better and is more resistant to blistering. I only have experience with epoxy, though.
