I'm so glad that I'm caught up to the project. I've binge watched every video of this project and others in about 3 days.

Such a great series. I recently learned that Leonard Milholland had designed a folding wing for his Legal Eagle because people building a budget airplane probably couldn't afford to pay hangar rent every month even if they could find one. I believe the same holds true for the Affordaplane. That single issue has temporarily stopped me from going forward because of the need to trailer the plane to an airfield to fly it. I would love to hear from anyone making an A-plane with folding wings like Leonard is doing now before I continue.

Hangar rent often incurs additional county taxes, too.

Thanks Jon!.. informative as always, I'm building a Zenith ( with a little help from your 750 build DVD ) your tips, hints and techniques come in handy no matter what you are building, Thanks again!

I hadn’t noticed this before, but it is interesting that the diagonal bracing in the wing was designed to be in compression rather than tension. That is an odd choice as it requires a relatively larger and heavier structural member.

Interesting observation. Doesn't that brace need to handle both (compress/tension) ?

Rotate the rear spar holder so the bolt is vertical & use it as a hinge to fold the wing?

What part number (episode) showed installation and alignment of the spar mounting brackets?

Did you just eyeball that the wings were perpendicular to the fuselage or did you verify by measuring from each wingtip to a midline common point on the tail or some other method? Certainly looks like an airplane now!🙂

One of those perpendicular laser level thingies would do the trick & help set up dihedral.

Since I personally built the wings using a jig and 2 spars exactly the same length, it would have been challenge to get it less than straight! But we should always check with a good eyeball and ruler. This is not surgery, but should be treated as such! lol

I don't see anything in the plans about washout. Is this like an RV where you don't need washout?

Wings with an aspect ratio of 1 (constant cord from root to tip) and no change in airfoil don't need washout. The tips are more lightly loaded than the roots so the tips will stall last. I'm trying to remember where I saw this explained but I have seen it in more than 1 source.
