Hi Jon. Thanks for the video. All of them will come in very handy when I go to build my own Affordaplane. Thanks again.

Your build is at the classic 80% done!! Only 50% more to go!!!

Enjoying watching the build I think the dury strut were it connects to the strut separator would look very nice with a triangle bracket made of stainless and have the edges slightly curved inwards around the tube to give it a stream line look but it’s a nice job you are doing

I’m in my dotage now….certainly older than the author of this video, who is doing a very good job explaining the structural analysis of this design. In my youth I recall reading in a book of an argument between two pilot/designers who disagreed about a structural member being in tension or compression. The pilot in question was convinced that the member was in tension , and therefore chose a bracing wire. Yes you’ve guessed…..he lost the argument …..the hard way , the very hard way. The moral of this story…….be careful, very careful, very very careful.

Careful will be my buzz word when I get to building my Affordaplane. I beleive I'm just a builder and that the guy (Dave Edwards) is the designer of the aircraft, and therefore has the knowledge of the best way forward. I'm also saving the videos off Utube to give me insight into building technics. I beleive that it is going to be very hard to completly muck the project up with these two avenues of knowledge to help me. But thank you very much for the advice. I promise to keep an eye open while constructing. I owe it to myself to do so. I really don't want to wind up in a heap of scrap because something let go at a thousand feet.

Couldn't remember where I saw it but finally found it. Search for Double Saddle Washer Kit, Model C for an image.

Great segment since the plans are very light on details here. better than the pipe clamp and rib tip shown. i dont think you can buy those plastic rib tips anymore.

Are you at the 90% done with 90% to go point yet? 😁

I wonder if putting the attachments in a vise and then bending the ears a few degrees with an adjustable wrench might have made a better fit. If both ends were bent a little the horizontal strut would have been a tight fit on both ends and not had the stress in it from being bent from the front attachment point.

If the mass of the material, rabidity, do not equal the load then what you prepose is necessary

at about the 20 min time, why not attach the brackets together on the same an3 through the ss brackets? drilling the extra hole in the 1/2 tube weakens it.

Good idea - until you notice the 40 degree angle that must be overcome with either a bent steel or alum bracket. Then we're back to loosing strength with bent brackets! I will have an update to make this area stronger with a simple mod. Stay tuned.
