Regarding the low compression on the engine it might not be an issue, If i remember correctly these engines have a decompression valve / system to allow for easy starting so low compression when just turning it over like you did would be normal.

@@joshuaatkins5197 lol, it's low compression because the rings and/or cylinder walls are shot, not because it has short piston travel. (no compression vs slightly lower compression)

@@CobaltOntarioadventures Incorrect , many Polaris engines including XLT ones had a decompression valve or well hole depending on model and year.
@PuckFNT
@PuckFNT Жыл бұрын
The "Special" XLT difference seems to just be the Fox long travel suspension in the front and rear. Snowmobile 2t triples are such cool motors, I love seeing them in builds. 2Ts have actually been making a comeback with crazy EFI and Turbo models released in the last few years in everything from sleds to dirtbikes and even chainsaws. If the CVT setup wasnt so darn wide I would love to put an older snowmobile triple in a small motoGP style motorcycle build...120+hp and under 300lbs would be a riot :).

2:24 on your sturdy bench, shape a piece of 8mm metal plate to mimic the shape of the lip of that rim. You can then hook the good side of the rim on that piece of metal (which should be polished) and with a hard faced (but not metal) mallet, smack the dents out.

That green slime is a preventative. It gets added usually before the tire is used. Slime it then air it and you have yourself a tire that acts puncture proof or slime seals around stuff(screws,nails... ect) so you don't get stranded. It's not really like fix a flat or similar.

I'm with you on not enjoying working with tires that have the green slime in them, but that being said i will still put it into any ATV/UTV I own. I drive primarily on rocky trails with a lot of weight on. I have never had a tire make it for more than its first year before it starts slow leaking. Put in the green slime and I don't have to add air for the whole season. Its worth working with the mess at tire change over time.

if its a high milage engine id look into having the crank pressed apart and the bearings replaced as well because those xlt engines were notorious for crank failures, the engines from that era with the individual cylinder heads were much better engines than the xlt engine with the continuous head in my opinion.
