35:08 Because new parts form ebay are chinnese crap, so used parts are better if you rebuild them, that's why used original parts are more expensive.

Great work Chris! I'm always just blown away by your design and fabrication skills. Honestly, you're using skills that all engineers should have. Heck, with just a few math classes you should have an Engineering degree! Love the build and watching your fabrication work, and I can't wait to see the results!

22:40 - I think you can use some SikaFlex stuff for that. They make some really good cold welding glue you may use in your project. 😉

Hmm... the diff case will also be spinning, isn't the oil going to hold to the outer casing due to centrifugal forces? Think washing machine! The fill port will create resistance on the oil as it spins and will most likely cause a rotational imbalance and probably destroy the LSD.

I think that new parts on Ebay are generally cheaper than used, because they are likely Chinese knockoffs and the used are original manufacturer (Japan). Thanks for the vids! 👍

Suggestion: Small square of aluminum on the oil housing with a 3/8” flush pipe plug would be much more tidy way to fill it ! Some bearings mount loctite should stop oil from weeping past the slip fit bearings. Having snap rings on the bearings should make it easy to remove them with loctite on them.
@ogrefreak522215 сағат бұрын
If you're looking for parts, Rock auto is a great look-up and they have good pictures of most of the parts. Even if you order elsewhere, it's a good catalog. Looking forward to see how this build goes.
@TurbochargedHobbies16 сағат бұрын
Used automotive parts are typically more expensive due to being OEM parts. No different than autozone being cheaper than the dealership for most parts. Plus RX7 parts will pull a premium, especially any OEM parts.
@freedomfab31916 сағат бұрын
Why didn't you just start with a center section from a independent suspension like a bmw or a ford 8.8 ?
@Chaoskampf16 сағат бұрын
Pipe threads, man. That's what they're for 😉. A little teflon tape and two pipe-threaded plugs, and those two holes on the back of the diff would probably never lose a drop of oil.
@Chaoskampf16 сағат бұрын
Don't get me wrong, I like what you do, and what you did should be fine. Just a suggestion from another professional fabricator (retired)
@gregholloway265616 сағат бұрын
I was thinking threads too, but I’d guess Chris doesn’t have a 1 NPT (guess on size) tap.

To keep impurities out of your welds. Try using a heat gun to heat it up instead of map gas. You can also use dish soap and water to clean it. Just make sure you rinse and dry good before you weld it.
@michaelblacktree17 сағат бұрын
Wow, that's a lot of work!

Hi Chris may 2025 give you unlimited ideas and success in creating them mate! Have a look at radius cutting tools for the lathe for projects like the spacer weld, it would have cleaned up the weld nicely leaving a tidy finish Also look for thread cutting tools from McMaster-Carr both these tools should be available their (even though I'm in the wilds of Western Australia I have heard of them😁. Also watching channels like Abomb79, and Keith Rucker you Lear a lot) You have come a long way Chris since the early days, so proud of you! Tony from Rural Western Australia 🇦🇺🦘

I think that this might leak from the carrier bearings toward the center section. It looks like the carriers are only sealed on the outside. You likely need to add an oil seal in front of the bearing (toward the diff)... Always great videos.

@jasonbirch118221 сағат бұрын
All you had to do was seal the diff. Cut a gear that meshes with the starter and run that to a jackshaft, that you already needed to get engine alignment correct. You could have easily adjusted the gearing for reverse too and left all that un needed wieght out of it.
@SilasCocks22 сағат бұрын
If you ever do this again there are some fwd lsd s you can buy from.the 90s that are sealed and smaller .which means you could save a lot of fab time and crown wheel un bolts so spoket can bot strate on . Nice work tho mate hat off to ya

just wondering for the holes in the centre hub and the oil can would threading them and use grub screws work instead of machining parts to fit. i would think a threaded lock tight screw would work ok for this application. your design is fine im just inquisitive as to making it a bit easier for us non geniuses. no bad vibes intended to me you are a genius the things that poor out of your mind boggles me great vid thanks
@1one3_RacingКүн бұрын
The reason new is cheaper is because they're cheap parts. Used are genuine and far better. But as you said, for your application they'll be fine.
