Building The LEGO Black Pearl For $500

2011 5 years old at my grandmas on thanksgiving, late at night parents call whilst out black Friday shopping, they ask if I or either of my siblings want the lego black pearl for Christmas cause it was on sale, FOR 40 BUCKS?!?!! We all said no, this will haunt me my entire life.

Back in 2020 I bought it at a thrift store for $200. It came with everything including the minifigures, box and instructions. Best decision I ever made.

Unfortunately, LEGO is still a business and they're not going to make or remake sets unless they think there is a market for them. Even if they know madmen like all of us exist, that's not enough for them. Sets like that only make returns when the IP gets a big boost in popularity. Indiana Jones & Lord of the Rings have geekdom staying power so are always a possibility but usually only get big new sets to coincide with the release of a new movie or tv show when interest will be the highest. So until Disney figures out what they're doing with the Pirates franchise we'll just have to wait and see.

Great deal on the build with box. Some people don’t like the pearl and think it’s overpriced/overrated, but I love it for the classic ship and build that it is. Currently looking to complete my black pearl journey sometime soon, working on obtaining the ship.

I remember buying that set and queen Ann at toys “R” Us years ago when they came out. When I told my grandad he told me I should have saved my money. It made me feel a little guilty when he said that. But Lego didn’t have a resale value like it does today. I wish he was still around so I can tell him about the price increase. I think my favorite Lego pirate ship is the Skulls Eye Schooner from the early 90's, or Queen Anne's Revenge from Pirates of the Caribbean. 🏴‍☠️🦜

I’ve had mine since Christmas of 2011. Had a lot of fun playing out Pirate adventures with my friends on it as a kid. It unfortunately has attracted a lot of dust over the years due to the color, but I try to clean it every now and then. Don’t know if I’d ever sell it, though the price is quite tempting

If it’s coated with a very thick layer, I recommend breaking it down and washing it with water and a bit of dish soap

I have both the Black Pearl and Queen Anne’s Revenge sets sealed brand new. Holy cow! I never thought these sets were worth more than 10x their original cost. I was planning on building them at some point but debating that given what they are worth.

I bought the Lego Creator Pirate ship last year and have loaded it up with a bunch of extra pirate figures including Captain Jack Sparrow and the mini Captain Metalbeard from the polybag set.

I bought a bundle a while back for about £50 because it had the black pearl sails and instructions within. After going through it I found most of the pieces. Have a guess at who was missing. Parts of bootstrap, all of Maccus and annoyingly Davy’s beard and the rather expensive small piece being his claw. Seeing this video reminds me I better not take too long getting the missing pieces before it all goes up in price again. Well done on getting it all under $500

I recommend people buy the instructions and pieces for thr black pearl from I think moc your bricks. It's going to run the same price and it's 4x bigger.

I have like 65% of this set built . My cousins old collection made its way into mine a long time ago and this was one of the sets I found in pieces. I’ve rebuilt most of it but am missing some sails and parts of Davey. It’s a cool ship but I really don’t think it’s too special!

3 years ago I bought a Chinese version of the Black Pearl $80usd. I crossed my fingers and it took so long I thought I got ripped off but it finally showed up. Fun build, higher quality than expected but not Lego quality. However, all minifigures were included and high quality. Soooo I bought the Queen Anne's Revenge $85 usd same experience. Tho not Lego, happy I got them😊

I snagged a Davy Jones last year for £90 GBP. Currently own the entire series of Figs minus the Silent Mary crew which I'm intending to buy sealed sometime next year as its the only ship I don't own. These are not cheap so I feel the pain!

I got mine for £300 a couple of years ago and I felt like I overpaid but tbh, it's only going to go up in price so I'm also glad I got it then. I do hope we get a remake someday. If only Lego would cool it a bit with stuff like Star Wars, Harry Potter and Jurassic World and give some more love to these licenses they haven't given enough love to in recent years like Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, Toy Story, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, etc. I know those 3 are popular but I just wish they could put that money into other IPs instead of so many remakes and non-canon sets

It’s such a disappointing ship - it’s not accurate, it has limited play features, it’s expensive. Compared to the classic pirate ships it fares even worse. Take away the license and no one would even remember the set.
