Good video. People often forget a cheap and easy way to avoid acid rain when building bases is to build one of the tents for 1x Fabrics. When standing under them you are protected from acid rain, and you can reclaim the fabric back later.

Started a base near the water, all mines next to each other. And from the start, Police bots, crab raiders, skin bandits lol. and the wind goes to 0 often. so you need generators as well. This is a fun spot to train and free crab armors;)

I used to build bases with walls, but now I just plop down a nice building with a few turrets on top and that seems to be working better. Every time I put up walls, it seems to trigger attacks on my base. Without walls I would still get attacked, but it appears to be a lot less frequently. I am a big fan of putting down a nice bughouse and using that as a forward base.

placebo, unless you're putting your base in very niche places, and adding walls expands its sphere of influence enough to cross into new areas with new types of attacks on your base

Very enjoyable watch :) If you build the tower blueprint first and dont exit out of build menu you can merge walls into the building. As soon as the frame is down on the map you can't clip them anymore.

Small tip for you about crossbow and harpoon turrets, the higher they are in elevation, the more damage they do. Awesome base and location man those copper ore drills are so nice really should be in vanilla imo. Good thing you didn't try to connect the walls to the tower if your base is not completely ringed in walls the game may spawn enemies directly inside it. It relies on a full perimeter to determine these things some get away with using terrain features but its always a risk without a full ring of walls. Aviticus's blood prince series has a perfect example of this at play where the Bastards keep spawning directly on top of him inside his hideout base.

My favorite base location is hidden in the mountains near the Dust Bandit bases. Requires very little fortifications as well. Relatively central on the map.

I know which area your talking about, and every other area after 3k hrs lol that's a nice lil spot. My favorite so far is smack in the middle of the Arm of Okran high up in the mountains close to Worlds End but not close enough that they try to incorporate us. It's always fun sniping curious paladins with eagle crosses or svds if its a gun manufacture mod run.

@@Tigtone_85 I often turn it into a Rum/Grog Farm + Converting Iron ore into Armor Plates. Sadly not green enough for cotten. Enough water/wind/arid fertility to make a good base. Copper isn't that far either but sadly isn't within the base, but not a huge lose as the money it earns easily affords anything it can not produce internally. 😉

@@KameradVonTurnip Sounds like a great time and that place is pretty nice especially at sunrise/sundown reminds me of the moutains in NM and southern Colorado. I've dabbled a lil in rum running but selling all the spare weapons and armor my smiths make while leveling up is usually how we make a living. Used to steal a lot but that makes the game mind numbingly boring and I have to forbid myself from it these days I got too good at it. Cleaning out the scraphouse isn't even a challenge I even figured out how to get one guy to push another one behind their shelves and get all the ancient crates lol.

What a coincidence... I have a base in leviathan coast and had two scouts down in the pits. I decided to make a small outpost for storage and recovery while down there and it turned into a multi week base building adventure but didn't feel that difficult. In my defense though I did ally with crab raiders and tech hunters also sent support sometimes which fought with my allied crab raiders lol. I didn't prospect much since it was supposed to just be an outpost but the crater just east of crab town is amazing. It's so close that you can't build in all of it initially but it has tons of stone, an iron node and a pretty bad copper node. The best part of it though is that you only have a very small entrance to the area so easy to defend. There are also ruins nearby that supply you with some early iron plates and electrical from the spiders. Also there is an AMAZING copper node really close on a cliff nearby (150). I have my town attacks set to high and raids set to 3 but with a few turrets it's not too bad since reevers have 0 harpoon resist. Also hydroponics helps a lot.

I wonder if you would manage to do it in the Srieking Forest, this place is much tougher to build anything inside due to non-stop attacks from several groups of 20-30+ naked dudes. This place is actually the hardest one to build a base in imo.

When I build my very first base, I got the warning that a Dust Bandit raid was coming. I tore down my first crappy stone processor to use the material for an upgraded electric powered one and build a wind turbine to run it. And then I was cranking out stone and building material to complete a small wall around my single house and my stone and iron processor before the raiders arrive. And then the wind died down. No time to tear down the new stone processor and build a hand-powered one. Just desperately hoping that the wind would start again so I can close the last hole in my wall. That one got very close.

+1 to this I always grab that bp from the hub or somewhere early on its cheap and a few fabrics can shelter 50 dudes. Mercenary tents work great for on top of watchtowers to keep turret gunners safe too and look great on top of them.

Hey Paganacho, I heard you are having some problems with ACID RAIN! I found that an easy solution to this is to give your most vulnerable characters straw-hats and dust-coats. You can get free dust-coats from grass pirates which can be found around the stormgap coast and free straw hats from Rebel farmers which appear any where. Love the vids, keep up the good work!👍

Is the crags that dangerous in vanilla? I use dangerous hazards and a number of different robot creatures mods (old ironsides, scarier security spiders, iron hounds, thrashers, crimpers reborn, sail backs and processors). Deadlands and flood lands are no go zones until mid level, and even late game there are dangerous as hell if no properly equipped. Lightning bolts can damn near one shot you (lost beep this way after getting jumped by a pack of rust jackels)

Pro tip. Always have the gate on water. Enemies always go to your front gate. And them having to swim there gives you a bunch of time to gun them down with turrets.

You'd be able to put the watchtower inside a wall, but you'd need to build walls first. Some sort of building mode magic fuckery. Also with mods you can unlock level 5 walls.

made a base below the swamp and i gotta say nothing can get to me 4 lines of defense robots on turrets 24/7 aswell as crabs and dogs guarding the gate. But it makes the game pretty boring if u are overpowered. Even my farmers can defend if needed.
