Damn, the amount of effort traditional artists put into swatching and stuff makes me feel guilty

Doing both traditional and digital I can say: digital artists have it much easier on so many levels. Skills are essential, but there are so many options in programmes that traditional artists either don't have or need to pay through the nose to get them. And most important thing.... You have CTRL+Z... :D

I just discovered your channel a few days back. I am in awe of your skills ! You are an inspiration to study and practice outside of my comfort zone. These videos have a very informative yet chill aura, perfect for accompanying me while I work on my own projects. For the curious: I'm working on my first semester project for my first year in a "comics and edition" master in Brussels. It's very intimidating but I hope I finish it in time and with satisfaction. It's a short documentary comic on game activities set in retirement homes.

the colour chart looks fantastic, I did a rectangle instead of a triangle and it took AGES so this definitely seems the better route!! hope everyone has a lovely Christmas ❤❤

I think watercolor is the diva of art materials 🤣🤣 you did a great job anyways cause you are a color magician hehe I loved the color chart btw, I could look at it for hours, idk why but seing lots of colors together make me go into some kind of dreamland

answering your question in the middle of the video: having a reliable ultramarine blue is probably the most essential for any palette for me. For portraits having some kind of reddish brown ( burnt sienna, RS Mummy transparent red) as well as a cool yellow like DS hansa yellow or Schmincke Lemon yellow and some kind of magenta colour (quinacridone rose/magenta or primary magenta) in the palette is nice. I also like having some kind of yellow ochre for mixing greens and some warm red (Vermillion hue, pyrrol red, permanent red orange something like that). My favourite "convenience mix" for fast portraits, especially with darker skin is Roman Szmal's Aquarius Violet for the shadowy parts. it works good with a limited or monochromatic colour scheme, it plays well with ultramarine and my red brown and I really like the way in granulates. my favourite colour in term of hue without any use right now is Schmincke's Prussian Blue green shade. it's just pretty. I like it...because it's pretty. I donT' know what to do with it yet...I just love it because it's neat. Though having a darker more neutral blue like Prussian blue or indigo (hue) or Paye's grey blue shade can be very useful too to create very dark tones.

Hi Emily, I just found your channel couple of days ago and have looked at several of your videos. Already I have learned few really good tips, including the idea to make paintings in black and white in order to learn and practice how to see values - thanks so much for sharing what you learned in art school with those of us like me who don't have the money or the time to go to art school. In that video (from an year ago) about art school or self taught, you mentioned you might make a series with what you took away from art school as well as what you had to unlearn after art school - if you are still thinking about doing that, please do! I would love to see such a series. I trust there will be lots of gems in there that you will pass onto those of us learning on our own. Thanks again for your time and sharing your knowledge.

With them colour mixing chart, I have the pure colour on the diagonal, and then have it so one colour is more dominant on the top side, then the same on the bottom. Like cadmium yellow and phthalo blue, one side is more yellow, and the other is more blue.
@emhuesart11 ай бұрын
Ooh that's a fantastic way to organize them! The mixes can look so so different depending on the ratio 👀

I can't wait to see how your watercolour paintings progress! Congratulations on an awesome year of Youtubing! 🙌 And as far as go to colours.... I love a raw sienna... I know boring but so useful! A good indigo has my heart. Azo green is the bomb. And I cannot live without a cad yellow. All the best for 2024 Em! 🎉

I also love making color charts, it's relaxing and a great preparation for using the material in question. I love your style, even in different materials we can see the resemblances of your work and the differences that the medium makes. Have a happy holiday! 💖

Hanging out and watching your videos has become something I greatly enjoy and appreciate while I am sketching and working on my next projects. Your artistry is incredible and your calm energy is very welcoming and feels as though I am among a friend. I am new to your channel, but I think your work and your video style are equally wonderful. I definitely subscribed! Thanks for being here Emily 😊

Highly recommend doing the other half of the chart as a glaze chart so you can see the difference between glazing and mixing the colours.

I think that's what I'll end up doing. It would be super helpful for me, as I really enjoy glazing in my paintings. Thank you so much! 🫶

Love your paintings! I’m amazed how you can create such a small studies with a quite big brush! Of course you will need crayons/pencils for details. My favorite is Raphael Aquarellpinsel Design 16684 Size 1 I can paint realistic eyelashes too. The Princeton velvet long round also has a very pointy tip and can hold a lot of water. Without these two, it’s hard to get details at the final layer. Hope your dog is better now ❤

What an absolutely amazing and ambitious video! That color mixing chart made me all giddy - just watching the process is so inspiring (though I'd definitely mess up a lot making something like this... 😅) Quinacridone Gold is so beautiful, and I loved hearing your thoughts on why you switched to more pigments instead of a limited palette. Honestly, the chart itself is such a piece of art and I hope you'll actually frame it one day! "it feels like watercolor can sense fear" ... that's so true. :'D
@changemymind066 ай бұрын
You should do the top half a glaze chart! Colors can look different depending on which one goes down first, so it's great to have two spots. I actually did that for my old palette, but in the standard rectangular format. However, I love your layout, so I'll try it with my new palette - then i can have both the mixes and glaze chart on one sheet! Love your work ❤

I would be really interested to hear about your thoughts on your palette know that you are months into using it. Has the palette served its purpose in introducing you to lots of new colours? Do you want to make a smaller palette still with your favourite colours? Do you use all the colours or do you know only use a smaller selection out of the lot? I went the other way around in my paint palette journey, started with a split primary and over the years I have built up my collection. I still use my original split primary the most I would say. But, I love them all. My favourites at the moment are potters pink, quin red and cobalt teal. I enjoyed the video :)))
