I worked on the road crew when I lived in Vermont and we found several sections of old class 4 roads that were repaired in this manner. A lot of these repairs were 30 or 40 years old and the logs were still fairly solid. The old timers used hemlock logs and kept them covered and under water so they were not in contact with the air. Your repairs will outlast us all !!! Frankie is a hoot!!! A good dog.
@thebossoftheswamp10 жыл бұрын
Hemlock, cedar and black locust will last a very long time. I have to use what I have on hand and regardless of how long it'll last, it gets the job done. Driving through those mudholes gets old fast. This method works pretty slick and cost nothing. I love it.

There are several old road to the northern that I know was done the same JC. They layer down logs and graveled over them and the bad swamps only hauled over when they was frozen. I don't know how old some are but was there long before I was born and still are. The logs are pushing up through it and some rotting now but I'm 45...

That's an amazing testimonial to corduroy roads. What a difference! I've often read of how the armies in the Civil War built corduroy roads to allow the transport of cannons and artillery. Now I see why. That was a very educational video my friend. Thanks for sharing - and tell Frankie that Ellie says 'Hello'!

I'm truly amazed at how well this works. Those mudholes were near impassable last year and now they're solid. The road is over half a mile long so I have lots more mudholes to fix. Would be great to bring in stone but I'm forced to work with what I have in the woods. So far so good though.

Boy JC, you really changed those mud holes into a very passable road. I don't think I would have thought about using logs because of the deterioration factor. But I know you wouldn't have done it if you thought it wasn't going to last. Just getting out in the peace and solitude of the woods is so rewarding and that Frankie, such a help. Until next time my friend. Stay safe and health, and may God bless. - Chris
@thebossoftheswamp10 жыл бұрын
The logs will eventually break down but they'll just turn into more ground matter. Being so far back in there and the ground so soft, I have no choice but to use what is available to me. This method isn't perfect but it gives me a drivable road NOW rather than waiting and wishing. Plus it doesn't cost me anything. I'm just thankful I have the sandbank. This method works very well in remote areas. The results are astounding actually. As always Chris, I appreciate the comments. God Bless.

He gets dirty alright but he sheds so damn fast that he turns white in no time. Yes the road project is a lot of work but I really enjoy doing that kind of stuff. I need a road more than the mudholes so I have to work with what I have in the woods. It holds up really well though.

Placing a ditch a v ditch uphill from your road and channeling it in one Culvert underneath the road Corduroy Road will help you out unless you're Valley is wider than most. The V ditch is like a V Road and creating this you would locate the lowest part of the Valley and the outward on both sides uphill from your road you have a nice butt hole that will do the trick you probably should start up hill and work your way down. You know what to do. I just need to say you need to put a v ditch Upstream.
@thebossoftheswamp5 жыл бұрын
Very true but there is no uphill here. it's is flat farm country.
