The illusion of the Rancor crouching really sells it - In the beginning of the video I immediately thought it would be uncomfortable for the actor - very well designed!
@FrankIppolito9 жыл бұрын
We tried really hard to get the wrist and neck to work, but we just didn't have the time (built the whole thing in 3 1/2 weeks). I'd really need to build it all over again to make it work. call this Rancor v1.0 HAHAH the suit weighs very little, but even the super light weight arms, the leverage just makes it super heavy. i need to make a framework with springs/bungee cords to help alleviate the weight. Same thing for the head. Head was actually the heaviest single part. we'd need to reconfigure the mechanism, and reinforce the structure to hold it up. maybe next time!

Pretty incredible effect when he puts the suit on!

Hmmm, looks like that could be a good basis for a Big Daddy suit as well.

I'd love to see this revisited and improved. It's absolutely PHENOMENAL don't get me wrong, but as Frank said in some comments below, he wasn't completely happy with it. I think with some modifications, rather than a rebuild, it could be brought fully to life as Frank wants it.

Even without the skin, that suit looks great, the illusion of a nonhuman anatomy is compelling. Would love to see if digitigrade legs (velociraptor) could be done by framing human legs this way.

I've always wondered how effective different kinds of suits are against cold. It would be fun to make an experiment. I know they are hot because I have worked in a snowman suit at a ski resort, but I would've loved to be the Rancor instead.

I know it is done already, but you could always add/hide an airflow out vent on the top of the head/hunched area. Then an in vent in the inner thigh. Put fans on them, and I bet it would stay much cooler. Plus wear a cooling system like Adam made.

Yeah I'm a bit dissapointed they didn't make it easier for the puppeteer to move the arms, by making an anchor to the backpack so there's less stress on the joints tryin to hold.move the hands. The fact that it takes 2 more people to hold its hands while moving does diminish the illusion.,
@dimitreze9 жыл бұрын
yeah, that didnt look cool
@friggetyfuck9 жыл бұрын
asher taz It's obvious the arms are too heavy to hold out sideways for very long. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger's deltoids would be screaming after a few minutes.
@ashertaz9 жыл бұрын
Guy Gadbois That's why i'm dissapointed they didn't think of a way to make some sort of exoskeleton that will move the weight to the shoulders. Some sort of anchor.
@chartle19 жыл бұрын
asher taz I figured as much when I saw the way the arms moved. What was needed is an extension of those graspers up the wearer's arm up to at least the elbow which is a much stronger joint than the fingers and wrist. Not sure how it would be attached since tightening straps onto your forearm would be difficult. Just some hoops would have taken up some of the weight.
@wwaxwork9 жыл бұрын
asher taz They say in one of the videos (I can't remember which one) l that this was kind of a rush job so they went with what the had & they plan on fixing the arms before they use it again.
