TIP. !!! ... In case you want to build your diorama around it you should keep in mind.....THESE shunters were used primarily used in explosive locations of the Wehrmacht ( refineries , depots and ammunition depots ), but also for ports , airfields..With this said, I really doubt they were used to transport tanks from and to the battlefield... (Germany is not known for their merchant fleet during WW2 so therefor I do not think the Germans would ship their equipment by boat).. I reckon they would use steam locomotives for that job...

Have you tried using FloryModels washes to define recessed detail? I've found that a black wash applied with an airbrush over a glosscoat and then removed using a paper towel and cotton swabs followed by a flat coat works perfectly and adds an additional level of realism.

A train ?? Alright, something different.. I think they call these type of trains: "shunters".... It would had been nice if the kit would had given you the option to leave the doors open...I also like to add that I do not think that this type of train did ever, excisted... I tried to Google but I could only find a reference to the C14 instead.... I think that Trumpeter made a bit of a f-up there

(@1:47) - I have this kit, but on mine, the “L”-shaped piece he installed just then - on mine, anyway - was badly warped to the point where it would not sit flat against the side frame piece with the suspension pieces. I intended to take it out to “fix” it, but then ended up losing it. Does anyone have the dimensions of that piece from their kit?

Fantastic job as always, well done. Would it be worth painting the rims of the wheels silver to mimic the real train wheels or would that be too difficult to do a convincing job on? I think if it was not 100% smooth, it might look worse rather than the current colour. Anyone got any thoughts on this one?????
@kaiharamzak4810
@kaiharamzak4810 4 жыл бұрын
Omg! Sorry, but forget the colour "german grey"! This colour has a greenish cast. That's just for tanks or another military vehicles, but never for german trains at WWII. The train vehicles all coloured at the first time in "iron-grey" (RAL 7011). On this lokomotive-type was all in iron-grey, except the wheels and just the INLAYS (!!!) of the coupling rods. There were coloured in "fire-red" (RAL 3000). The coupling rods outside the inlays are blank steel, just like the wheel-axis faces and the wheel treads. Another kind of colouring was all in "black-grey" (dark grey) (RAL 7021), inclusive the wheels and coupling-rod inlays. This colour was used from 1943 to 1945. Only the visible step sides and handles (except the ends) were in white (RAL 9010) at the black-grey-version. The driver cabin was inside in "light grey" (RAL 7035), the hand wheels of the valves inside the driver cabin were in fire-red. The seat was in leather-brown (RAL 8027) and the rest in simply black (RAL 9005).

Has anyone tried motorizing this kit? I could engineer the parts in CAD, but I simply have no way to manufacture them. And I have a 1/35 scale German Panzerjagerwagen kit from Trumpeter that would look nice behind this engine! There are kits out there for G-scale (garden railway) trains that let you add batteries, an R/C-style transmitter, and a speaker for realistic sound. If you take the side-rods off, this could easily be kitbashed into an American prototype from Plymouth or Baldwin Locomotive Works, though you’d have to fashion American-style knuckle couplers then, and remove the European-style buffers. For reference, O-gauge is 1:48, and G-gauge is 1:20 (IIRC), so 1:35 sits uncomfortably somewhere in between - yikes!
@DrGonzo62
@DrGonzo62 4 жыл бұрын
This is not a well engineered kit. It has a lot of fitting issues that our buddy Andy didn't really talk about. I guess that slapping it together and dipping it in a can of paint might be good enough for some. This was my first Trumpeter kit and a large scale 1/35 kit as well, and I wasn't liking it at all. After several decades of building scale models this was pretty much a turn off. But then again - I had to pay for this kit and didn't get it for free to rave about it.

Feb. 18, 2018----Too bad Trumpeter still hasn't come out with an American locomotive, boxcars, etc. during the 1940's. Imagine if they had boxcars, passenger cars and flat cars available....dioramas would be endless for military/civilian themes thru the 1950's.

Sorry, Andy but it's over-weathered. These locomotives at the very most were only 5 years old by the end of the war. That effect looks like 30 years of wear. Shunters (switchers) were really well looked after by their crews and still are in Europe. They do not look that scruffy, especially in Germany. The cab interior and control desk would be in shades of grey in a diesel . The seeming "unevenness" in the wheel sets is correct. It gives articulation and allows the loco to negotiate very tight curves.
