Great job I'm in the middle of a full restoration on a street legal 1990 cr 500 from Scotland pretty much going down the same road with mine only thing I have done different was sent my cylinder to a guy in England to have it custom sleeved with an alloy sleeve set at 91mm and nikasil plated so i can run a vertex piston at 2 thou clearance.
@TNTMOTO2 жыл бұрын
Nice bike. Parts have to be hard to find over there. I was going to get the cylinder done, but the budget is already blown apart with the cost of the new case half and transmission gears. I would have been transferring more cost to the new owner with a gain that is not needed right now.
@SuperAnthony19822 жыл бұрын
@@TNTMOTO yeah, it's become very expensive to get the parts.. I had done a few 88 89 cr250 restoration about 5 years ago and the difference in difficulty has sky rocketed since. I'm kinda lucky that a local guy does a lot of the old stuff cheap.. like the tin can honda cranks he rebuilt this 500 crank with a quarter of a thou runout on the dead centers which is crazy.
@TNTMOTO2 жыл бұрын
@@SuperAnthony1982 That is awesome. I have a guy here in BC that does amazing work for a great deal as well. He does everything from machining to painting .He powder coated my frame for this 500 build for $285 cad which might sound like alot. But previous builds elsewhere cost me $400. His workmanship is also unbelievable, i cant find a thin or missing spot of powder anywhere. Makes my powder coating skills look like im using Crayola crayons.
@SuperAnthony19822 жыл бұрын
@@TNTMOTO oh it's great when you find a good powder coater. I have been through a lot of places to find my current guy who is around $370 for engine cases and frame. He does a good job nice and thick! With this current restoration I have everything in getting painted atm the only slightly naughty thing I have done is change the 1990 colors which I really wasn't a fan of, To the ral 3020 of the 88 89 but seeing as this is for my collection I can live with it lol.

My restored and highly modified 88 model KTM 540 now puts out 69.25 rear wheel DYNO horsepower with a massive Lectron carb..But bloody hell does it consume the premix so much quicker than the last carb fitted..I guess thats the price you pay for uncontrollable HP.

@@TNTMOTO Its actually not very ride able or forgiving in this DRAG mode I call it in the dirt..way way too brutal power delivery..I always use second with gentle take off to prevent looping out..but it will do third gear no problems..With lowered front end and knobby tyres it's about equal in speed in a drag with a GSXR1000 Suzuki in 400 meters and the KTMs running low dirt gearing..If I had bigger funds I'm sure we can reach around 85rwhp..but that's all out drag tune running top fuel nitro methanol go faster juice.
