Building The Ultimate PSP-1000. In this video I teardown the PSP and show you every step to building a brand new one. For this weeks video I decided to venture into uncharted territory and open my PSP. This PSP has been sitting in the shelf for over 10 years collecting dust. I decided to bring the PSP back to life because I was curious if it could still be used in 2023. Today we will be installing a number of things (list is down below) to make the PSP play games again. I would not recommend you buy a third party housing shell for your PSP because sometimes these shells are not made to the exact measurements (you'll see in the video). Hope this helps.

I bought my clear blue psp 1000 shell maybe 9 years ago and there are 0 issues with it. I don't use the buttons it came with cos they look silly use original black ones......

I had the same problem with the analog stick and I was able to fix it by adding solder to the connections, thus making the analog stick contacts a bit taller/thicker and, its a day a night difference, I know it works because I have done several shell swaps (over 20 times) and adding the solder ball is always a reliable fix.

Stick drifting problem can be fixed by using small washers between the analog stick and faceplate. These aftermarket faceplates don’t measure up 100% and what the washers do is apply a little bit more pressure on the analog stick contact points. Should do the trick

I have the Same Problems... I swaped a black 1000 with white reshell.... And the Stick drifts also I found the Problem : the white aftermarket Shell does Not make enough pressure to this rubbery thing where the stick pins preses.... So anoying !! I rather Play on the original dameged Shell..... Nice Video !!!

So i just did this mod (the 1st of 3 i'm doing) for my kids' christmas presents. I did a clear blue one and it fit together really well, didn't have to cut anything, (got lucky i guess) except the battery casing was a little tight and a few screw holes needed a forced thread start. Thanks for the video. It was really helpful. I would just add, there are 3 or 4 different motherboards for the 1000 psp, all have a different shorting point for the ips screen. I will post a link to the different pictures if anyone requests and the uploader allows

Good video. I plan to completely refurbish my old PSP as well using a new case I had ordered years ago and an IPS screen. I'm still torn on whether I want to use a reproduction "stock" battery that's advertised as 3600mAh or replace it with an internal LiPo battery that'll take the place of the UMD drive (all my games are on MicroSD already). The capacity between the two is the only thing that really puts me on the fence, since obviously 3600mAh would be better than the average of 1500-2200mAh that the LiPos I've seen have. I'll also need to replace the long-dead CMOS battery on the motherboard, so that might take some digging to source a feasible replacement.

Yea it's a shame you can't get nice quality third party shells as I'd really like a glass screen lens on my 1000, as you can't use those with an original shell. Third party Gameboy shells by comparison are incredible.

You should have kept the og back and just swap the front faceplate, also that battery is not really 3600mah, more like 500 mah 😂. Otherwise clean build. You can take that batt apart and use the board for big battery mod.

yeah, you cant make 2400mAh difference without changing the size of battery, i almost got caught on it also while searching for new psp parts.

Love it nice video and IV had massive issues with new full case the joystick always messing up the major issue I then put my original one back on and boom joystick back to fully working and I'm doing what you do is to get a psp in good condition that's for parts to replace with original housing there are nice original white blue and red out there from Sony original best thing todo I knew I was not the only one with joystick issues from having them dam crappy case

so the reason your thumbstick is doing the thing is bc its not making contact on the motherboards contacts. theres a conductive silicon pad that sits between the thumbsticks pads and the motherboards pads to connect them. ill try and find it and link it :) had to replace mine is how i know

I had the same experience here with my psp 1000 reshell, the buttons sucked, case quality sucked, stick drift on new stick because the case wont close properly on the analog stick side, battery cover wont stay put. I got the clear blue shell and it looks so good tho. I now just display it and play on my vita

The after market cases all suck they tend to require slight modding due to the 1000 series having 4 different motherboard revisions with slightly different dimensions but the quality of the plastics are still crappy.

I had that issue with the analog stick and this exact shell, too. In my case, the screw at the rear that's directly underneath it wasn't catching the thread at the front of the shell. Had to use one of the screws that came with the case rather than the OEM ones - then it held together properly and worked just fine thereafter. Also, the power button! Not sure about your instance, but I had to physically cut away extra plastic just to make it fit - the power button in my clear shell was clearly designed for a model other than the 1000 or even 2000. Definitely shoddy quality - but damn if it doesn't look nice!

Definitely needed to cut extra plastic as well to make stuff fit. It sure did look good but in my case the poor quality of the case made me just want to change back. Thanks for watching

ALSO at 8:20 Next to the letters "EP" you will see a clear rubber covering the contacts for the analogue stick. (no other video's mention this and it is crucial) Don't be an idiot like me and lose it!! it is needed for the joystick to work properly. I am now having to wait for a replacement !

so, im gonna say one thing about the batteries, the thing is that the 3600 batteries are not even 3600 you cant made the same size battery as 1200 and make it 3600 its just imposible, i saw on reddit and other sites that people say the same thing, they are fake and its better to buy original 1200 from sony but new.

My 3600 last a little longer than the original but it’s honestly not that much. Knowing that info now, I would definitely try to buy an original for sure.

I have question why it says PSP 1001 but actually have a PSP 1000 I don't understand because I've been fixing up my console my head hurts with screws and making sure I buy the right screws for it so I can replace the LCD screen
