Building the Ultimate Station Wagon | 2021 Dodge Charger Magnum Hellcat | 1000HP Hellwagon | Pt 9

I was finally able to make some progress on the Charger Magnum, after my long trip to New York to get all of the Charger Widebody parts. I wanted to see how much of the floor needed cut to fit the Trackhawk 8 speed awd automatic transmission and after all of the cutting, it fit and really didn't take up any usable room so that was a huge plus. Then I wanted to see what the front end looked like with the widebody front bumper minus the fenders and the flares and every piece I put on the car just makes it that much more clear why I decided to do what I am doing. Then I wanted to get the rear doors figured out, I needed to remove the rear sections of the door frames since the charger and magnum are very different door openings but everything went as planned. At the end I couldn't help myself I decided to mock up all of the rear panels just to see what the car is going to look like and I must say it looks so good and I can't wait to see it painted and sitting on good wheels.

I found another guy who was building a "Hellcat Magnum" but in the first few episodes, he said he didn't know how to weld, and when everyone pointed him at JY Dave's car, he got pissed. lol His channel was lots of episodes of him talking about doing it. lol

G'day mate, you said you were struggling to adjust doors by yourself. As a 30 year panel beater down under could I suggest you try using a brickie's bolster. A wide dull edge chisel about 150mm wide. Put a rag around chisel, put it under door and rest it on sill panel. You determine where is comfy. You have full control of undo/do up bolts and full control of up/down on hinges. Also to me you are pretty much the first You Tuber who is taking the time to do things nice. Cheers brah. Andy

Dude your ability to take a car apart and put it back together is next level, I can only imagine your reaction and how you felt when you realized that the magnum rear quarters and hatch all pretty much lines strait up with the charger and then this idea popped up in your head! Dodge definitely should have brought back the magnum in widebody hellcat form!

Cheap way to figure out the clearance is use some PVC piping to simulate the driveshaft if you don't already have one.

Dave, this build brought me to the channel and keeps me coming back. I love the work you are doing. BTW, if I can, I'd like to make a suggestion for a future build. I'd love to see a Hellcat Dart, not the classic Dodge Dart that everyone thinks of. That's been done I'm sure. I want to see a last gen Dart (2012-2016) get swapped. Call it a Hemi HellDart or whatever. I just think it'd be cool. Anyway, great work!!!

That would be difficult. The dart is fwd. I think it could be done if you had a charger shell, shortened and narrowed it and dropped the dart body on it. Wouldn't be much dart left. I'd watch though.

@@garykuhn1921 I don't think it would be any more difficult than turning a Charger into a modern representation of a Magnum with AWD, widebody, and a Hellcat. Both are equally challenging to pull off. Different build, but if you get a chance, look up the "Gobalt". It's a Cobalt with GTO underpinnings. In a way, it reminds me of a very niche market that existed in the early 90s. There used to be a Mopar kit to convert the FWD Daytona and its sister cars to RWD. Some guy fit a 6.1L Hemi into one about 10 years ago. Again, different car, but anything is possible with enough skill or money I guess.

For much of the RWD stuff the parts interchange. The hellcat motor fits the magnum. The jeep trans fits the hellcat motor. The charger body panels fit mostly, because its the same unit-body mostly. Converting a fwd compact sedan, to a rwd v8 system designed for a large sedan seems like more work. But, I guess we'll see if it's the next build... 👌

You are literally building my dream car... I no longer have my Magnum and miss it very much. It has been my dream since the hellcat was first revealed, to create a Hellmag. This build is next level to what I was thinking mainly due to the fact that there was no Trackhawk. Using the awd components from that vehicle makes the build perfect in my opinion. If circumstances allow, I would gladly pay you 100k to build one for me. I assume this is a passion project for you, and not something you planned to make a career out of. That said, I can't wait to see the finished project. Awesome work bro, hope Dodge is paying attention to this.
