Sometimes looks can be deceiving. I set out to create a stool based on the instability of newborn animals, like newborn moose. Something which visually would appear different from the actual feel and comfort of the final result. Hope you enjoy the build!

Beautiful piece! I’d love to hear more about your design process. Maybe see some of the iterations you possibly went through.
@SwitchAndLever
@SwitchAndLever 6 жыл бұрын
There’s a lot that goes on in my head. I iterate a bit subconsciously. For this once I actually drew it up on paper and in CAD it was already done in my head and the CAD step was mostly to confirm thicknesses and proportions. From there it’s just building. I guess that’s part of the beauty of doing things for myself, I don’t have to validate and communicate each iterative step that goes on inside my, admittedly messy, mind 🙂

I would have liked to hear about how this stool was inspired by the instability of a newborn moose. Also please do us all a favor and use some scrap wood for pushing wood through the bandsaw instead of getting your fingers quite that close. That being said, I learned a lot and got some new ideas about woodworking from this video, and that stool is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
@SwitchAndLever
@SwitchAndLever 6 жыл бұрын
It’s literally only that, there isn’t so much design process going into it beyond that. I draw up a couple of sketches, spend a little time in cad, print the mock-up you see at the end and then decide to build. My fingers aren’t really all that close, and I’ve never even had a close call with a bandsaw. I don’t use my arms so much for pushing, because I know what happens if something slips. I push from the hip more to have a more solid base, and don’t push in line with the blade unless it’s far away. Always keep my hands to the side or behind the blade if they’re getting close 🙂

@@SwitchAndLever you should lower the top guide rollers as an extra safety measure. There's a lot of blade sticking out just waiting to grab you
@SwitchAndLever
@SwitchAndLever 6 жыл бұрын
Yep, but it’s a conscious choice for the video, as they’d obstruct the view. What I do on and off camera is a little different, and sometimes compromises are made for the sake of the video 🙂
@lobitome
@lobitome 6 жыл бұрын
@@SwitchAndLever i think you should do things YOUR way, and everyone else can do things their way. As someone who has had a pretty nasty cut from a table saw blade, I understand why the safety concerns, but no amount of careful helps sometimes. And if you cut yourself, that is how you learn not to do something a certain way again.
