Thanks Fluff! Being an Audio Engineer I built my band's IEM rig mainly mysself but with a lot of inspiration by your previous videos. In our case we are running a full drumset mic'd through splitters and into our in ear mixes - by doing that we use the USB card of the X32 as sample and Click Playback (of course samples go out via aux to FOH) and as full band recording interface on 21 Tracks during writing sessions and to check rehearsal progress. I soldered my ass of to all the 3 panels with 12 slots for a jack each but it's sooo convenient to use in rehearsal and live. When a band goes fully DI with Kemper and Darkglass, the soundcheck four ourselves only takes minutes - vocals, guitar, bass, samples and click need almost no tuning and the only thing to mess around are the drums because at every gig the mics are placed different and the other bands/house kits need different attention anyway. thaaaaanks a lot for so many helpful videos!

People are hating on the P16 setup here but it's pretty smart: you get analog-ish-feeling mixer per person that they can fuck with on their own without having to deal with wireless connections and apps and all that BS. This will *just work* every time, by turning a knob and they own their own little domain for their ears. The X32 feels a bit overkill since it's just passing all inputs on but I guess they have the budget so it's a good move. It seems like you could do the same trick with an XR12 for example right?

I'm extremely curious on how you do the individual IEM mixes...
@bobdoerr95369 ай бұрын
apps is 100% easier to use then p16 (also cheaper) and would also have less fail points (one cat5 to a router vs multiple power supplies and cat5 jumps). You don't have to be tech savy to use the app, it's literally easier then 95% of tech people deal with on a day to day basis now. As far as "expandability" the app would also be easier if you had to add additional inputs. Many bands at the level of the used don't tour with a monitor engineer anymore and one guy in the band runs the x32, if not the guitar tech does it for shows. If this is not the case you, in your own video,, make reference to the x32 being "industry standard" so the useds foh engineer (they still tour with a foh engineer right? Your video makes me wonder this) could also help out if something weird happens when they want to rehearse, all though i'd bet theres more of a chance something weird happens with those p16s vs the app and they are going to ditch the p16s for the app in the long run.

With the X32 and a router that you connect to the mixer via the Ethernet port each member can use a tablet or smart phone to mix their own in ears using MX Bus. You wouldn’t need power play. My band has a Midas M32 and we mix our own in ears with iPads or phones.

Hey Fluff, I was wondering why the band is not using the MXQ (X32) App to control their IEM via wifi using external portable router ( or permanent installation to rack) I thought they were going to use the P16 as a standalone IEM without Wireless IEM. Awesome video as always!!!

I love the p16 I got one for my drummer for our in ear rig to free up a mix bus and outputs. Our rehearsal rig is a tascam us16x8 and a rack headphone amp. Its a little more portable and takes up less space than our 12u in ear rack and we can still run our laptop show with a track template for the tascam

I believe the X32 Rack is the perfect mixer for compact and portable builds (and also for future-proofing as you can add on digital stageboxes to increase your I/O or install Dante cards for digital audio networking). BUT The X32 Rack has gotten so expensive over the past few years. I remember seeing it for around £700 and thought "that's a little outside my price range", and today its £1222 (and keeps slowly climbing). I made the same mistake with the XR18, which I bought when it came out for around £350, but it turned out to be a faulty unit so I sent it back to the manufacturer for a refund. I then a year and a half later bought another one for £500 (the XR18 is now currently £555 and hasn't dropped). If I was gonna build a "budget IEM/recording build" I would use; XR18 x2 ULTRALINK MS8000 (Isolated split) Behringer HA8000 V2 (for wired IEMs) x2 Powerplay P16-M (for extra monitor feeds on stage)

is the purpose of the p16's to have expanded stereo outputs from the x32 rack? check out the midas dn4816-o if thats the case. single ultranet cable out or the x32 and you get 16 analogue xlr outputs from one hub.

Fluff! I’ve been working on my bands rig like this for about six months now. One of the coolest things about the x32 is the ability to use it as both the mixer and the interface. Was there any particular reason they needed the focusrite? We started with the assumption we needed a separate interface but our rig got so much cleaner once we set it up with the x32 directly.

Since the X32 is a 32i/32o USB audio interface already, why did you use the Focusrite? My band routes the click, backing, and virtual instrument keyboards through the USB connection as if I had a separate interface.

@sqlb3rn Жыл бұрын
this is such overkill for band practice, the focusrite is literally a waste of space and money because the digital mixer is also an audio interface. Everyone can connect to the same single IEM transmitter if you have a decent mix. That whole "behringer ecosystem" can be replaced with a 1U presonus mixer. And still achieve the same requirements in a 4U rack for less than half the weight and cost.
@RiffsAndBeards Жыл бұрын
Heyo! I was looking on your Channel for all the IEM systems that you’ve built and don’t see anything? Also. The band had specific asks and wants and needs for the rig. If you think a band that sells out arenas is going for a ‘budget’ rig you are sorely mistaken.
@sqlb3rn Жыл бұрын
@@RiffsAndBeards doesn't get much more budget than a focusrite scarlett, which you don't need because the x32 is also an audio interface. I deleted all my youtube videos because they just let random users make false copywrite claims on my original content, and also I am not a content creator and do not enjoy making videos.
