The Hawker Hurricane was designed by Sydney Camm of the Hawker Aircraft Company to comply with specifications issued by the British government as it reacted to the re-armament of the German Luftwaffe prior to World War 2. The other aircraft designed to meet these specifications was the more famous, and arguably more glamorous, Supermarine Spitfire.
Both aircraft used the now legendary Rolls Royce Merlin engine, but had little else in common. Unlike the complicated Spitfire, the much larger Hurricane used basic and established production techniques that made them simple and relatively cheap to manufacture, as well as making them easier to repair by ground crew in the field.
Although the faster more elegant Spitfire took more of the plaudits, the Hurricane was the workhorse and in truth it downed more enemy aircraft in total than the Spitfire. In the fight against Luftwaffe bombing raids on Britain the two planes were an effective combination with the Spitfires attacking the fighter escort and the Hurricanes attacking the bombers themselves.
Over 14,500 Hurricanes had been manufactured at the Hawker Aircraft Company and in shadow factories in the UK and Canada by the time production ceased in 1944.
This example with the markings P2992 was used by 527 (Calibration) Sqn, RAF for gun calibration.
This model took me around 80 hours to complete.

Magnifique ! Le hawker hurricane est le plus beau chasseur mais ce n'est que mon avis, j'ai suivi la construction de A à Z en plus sous le charme de la musique classique. Hi Rob Watching your Hurricane build as I am making mine now I want to ask if you paste all stringers etc when covering the fuselage. I always only paste outer wing edges and am happy with shrinkage results there but not so when working on fuselages by only pasting the outer edges of each section covered. Might seem an odd question but don't want to be disappointed with the Hurricane which is coming together so very well. Have to say to Bob that your videos are great and I always look for any of yours before starting a build. Regards Barry

Hi Rob - really enjoyed the video - I'm doing a Keil Kraft Invader with a lad at the primary school I work at (he suffers from low attention, lack of attention to detail) and I'm hoping taking part will help him see that taking his time and putting a bit of effort in can make a big difference and produce something worthwhile (fuselage done, wings next!!). I'm using dressmaking pins which are a touch fiddly for him - what are those T-Bar looking pins you have? I bought one of these kits for my own boy a couple of years ago - it's still collecting dust on his wardrobe - I think I'm going to have to galvanise him into action (although the draw of his phone may be too much....) Good luck and keep safe!

Brilliant video! Beautiful airplane! As soon as my wife isn't looking, I'm ordering a kit. After a childhood of die-cut disappointment followed by middle age of endless hand-cutting, I built a laser-cut Guillow's kit. What an incredible experience full of unbroken parts that fit like an egg crate. Alas, I was stuck with the godawful plastic nose. It looks like this kit is even better. I love the lightening holes in the spar! I can't wait to build it. Also, you know how to cover with tissue. I saw many "how-to" videos that were appallingly sloppy. Btw, the way the second half of the fuselage appeared like magic. I assume there were some frustrating moments in it's construction?
@robbrennanrc
@robbrennanrc 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken. Many thanks for your great comment. The nose cone on this one is plastic as well. Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick but I've never built a Guillow's kit. Got a VMC kit as a present and stuck with them ever since. We may have watched some of the same awful covering videos from the sounds of it. More tricky than frustrating, not being able to pin the thing down. I have another channel called 'Rob Brennan Balsa Wood Planes' which has a build series on the Vought Corsair (18 videos in total) that shows the fuselage build in a lot more detail. Thanks again for watching and stay safe my friend.

@robbrennanrc
@robbrennanrc 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Steven.The prop shaft has a hook on the end for the rubber band. The other end is held in place with a toothpick. Once the fuselage is covered and shrunk you will see two rectangles of balsa just behind the cockpit with a hole in. You need to push the toothpick through the holes then feed the rubber band through the square hole at the front and loop it around the toothpick and then pass it through the other side of the fuselage. Cut the toothpick down so you have a few mm sticking out either side and you are done. Hope this helps.
