This is a Vintage Model Company balsawood and tissue paper model kit powered by elastic.
The kit is based on the Royal Aircraft Factory SE5a world war 1 Biplane.
The original plane was powered by the Hispano-Suiza 8 water-cooled V8 SOHC aero engine.

Mark Bryan RC - Thanks for the great comment. I Hope to try a test flight of it next week so am just checking and adjusting the balance in the hope it doesn't crash and burn.. If all goes well I will be posting a video of it soon afterwards.

Great music! I read every Biggles book as a child, so this was fun to see, even though he eschewed SE5s in favor of Camels.

Hi Tom. Thanks for your comment. I am waiting for the weather to improve so I can try it outside as I don't have anywhere I can try it inside at the moment.

RAF, in this case, means Royal Aircraft Factory, not Royal Air Force. The name was later changed to the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) when the Royal Air Force was founded 1 April 1918.

Hi thanks for your comment and for the correction. I totally miss read the info I found on the web. I have changed the description but without deleting this video I can't change the title.

@@robbrennanrc So this aircraft flew for the RFC, as there was as yet no Royal Air Force. I like the fact that it´s finished in a very brown khaki - it looks glorious to me. How does it fly?

@@Del350K4 Hi Del. If you want a bit of a laugh have a look at this kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKvHc4SdebWois0 I think I got the balance point wrong and ended up adding too much weight to the front. This was my very first build ever (a Gift from Mark) so had no idea at all about balancing and trimming think I got it wrong and ended up adding to much weight to the front. The room wasn't anywhere near big enough but as Mark had got permission from the head of his school we gave it a go. Thanks for watching my friend.

I am just doing my second build. 1st build was a Dumas Fokker Eindecker Peanut scale which turned out well, now doing a Guillows P40 warhawk (kit 405 27.5 inch ws) just as a static model but using Solartex Olive drab to give it a nice finish also made my own 3 bladed prop from balsa for a scale look

Hi Danny. They sound cool you should post a video of them when you’ve finished. This was a Christmas present from a close friend so I haven’t had the heart to try flying it, knowing my luck it would crash first time out and end up in a million pieces.

I think for my next build might try a high wing trainer build for electric flight, know where you are coming from regarding the flying thing though all that work building to nose dive on the first outing lol

Great video thanks. Just about to move onto the fuselage on mine. Did you do anything to strengthen that 'crack' behind the fifth former? Feeling a little apprehensive about it

This particular model came with just one gun mounted on the fuselage but I've just noticed that it is missing so it must have broken off in the crash. Oh well these things happen. Thanks for watching.
