The swing arm idea turned out pretty cool. If I could make a suggestion, add some grease nipples to the sleeves that will act as your hinges. I work in a shop that does a lot of work on trailers, and being able to grease the hinges will help with rust prevention/ceasing, and also excessive wear from the friction of opening and closing. The build is coming really cool. Can't wait to see the finished camper truck 👍

I would have had the back door split and swing open to the sides. With that tailgate being so deep it will be hard to reach in to grab tools and such. Then you could have used the step in the back bumper too... and the overhead window could open and protect you from the rain if you still had enough room in back to sit. You could then do a swing down grill on the inside of the door and sit back there and cook. Then you could have mounted the swing arms to the door and left them.

He mentioned he will have generators and welders and such in there not tools. So he should be good to go. But that's definitely a good point just in case.
@Enter-a-name55

I was just thinking the same. With the door opening down like that it will be extremely awkward to get anything in or out. Barn door style doors would be the smartest choice. At least then that rear compartment would be usable. Let's face it, if it is super awkward to put anything in there, like a cooler, it will get tossed in the living quarters with everything else. That's just a really bad design all around.
@guitarsguitarsguitars6498

@@Enter-a-name55 did you watch the video? It's for a purpose. They want to use the long tailgate as a temporary work platform when needed.

You could make it have a chain the that holds it flat so you could un-hook it to load with it 180* down or 90* when you want the tailgate. But that top window may be really hard to close its going to be really high especially if you stand a few feet back.

Just a thought. Absolutely love this build so far! On the swing outs, take a football, fill it with foam, cut it in half, and form each half over the sticky outy parts. Make a piece of wood that fits between them for storage. Just an idea again.

For securing the backdoor in the down position, you could fabricate a boltstyle lock like that of of a gate on the backside of the rack.... you could make it long enough and let it slide into a hole on the top of the door.... If you do that on both sides the tailgate would be pretty secure i think plus you would not interfear with the tire when it's on the rack...

The build is looking great. However it's concerning the amount of weight you plan on having past the axle with the battery, generator and possible water and waste storage. I suggest maybe looking into moving some of the weight between the axles. That way you'll have more usable tongue weight and towing capacity.

An idea for the tire mount. On the center make something to hold the tire/wheel in place. A center piece or like the old school, 3 studs with big wing nuts to hold it in place. That bar in the middle can be made stronger to hold it. On another note the hinges look like they will fail overtime. Weather dirt on a metal to metal surface is not good. I would find the way to put some type of rubber seals tip and bottom. Then ass s grease fitting. So you guys can inject grease. It will stop contaminants from getting in and help slow down the metal to metal wear and tear.

That's a cool looking gate. I'd just build it with bearings. Thinking that over time rust can build under the tubing sleeves and weight on the swing outs might make the sleeves bind and the gate difficult to open. A cheap set of trailer axle spindle can be modified for that.
