Most homestead houses around the beginning of the 20th century, had very little cupboard space in the kitchen. My Grandma's kitchen only had this little hutch!

Thank you for including detailed cutting directions and being very clear in your video about what piece you're working on. You should pin your comment. I just found your channel this morning. Am watching your playlist, but there's 11 videos and this one is an hour long. I'm watching sped up, but it's going to take awhile. will probably need to take a break.

Hello Penny, lovely as usual. Just thought I’d let you know that I used to sell bespoke (full-size) furniture and the insides of the drawers are never painted, for exactly the reason you identified. The moisture in the paint/stain whatever you’re using causes the drawers to stick. Only the drawer front and about an inch on the inside front are ever ‘finished’❤

I wondered what ‘bespoke’ furniture meant! And yes, of the bazillion (that’s my word for many) drawers I have, not a one of them is painted!

If you happen to have an old set of Legos around the house, they also make great set up blocks and can be fashioned in any shape you might need (so long as it has right angles). I got that idea from Little Gretchen's Workshop.

You are absolutely right! The jumbo lego’s work great for keeping things straight. They are way cheaper than the 1-2-3 blocks too!

If you have or had children their lego blocks make really nice jigs also. If no lego you can get a pkg at Dollar Bargan or Dollar Tree very inexpencively. Just a thought. I use my grandson's lego ;)

I was going to make a similar comment. I was wondering if Lego's might also be able to be used as a vice, but not sure if they could grab securely enough, depends on piece of wood/material, maybe could make thicker with popsicle sticks, stir sticks etc.

Have you considered adding a larger face on front of your drawers. That would hide any gaps. Additionally, it could even out the drawer spacing.

@@kimberlyforrest3676 It is a balancing act to get the fronts close enough to each other to reduce the gap, and still being able to open the drawers without them rubbing together. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love this. Your channel is my favorite for miniatures. I have not watched all of your projects, but do you make dolls and/or doll clothes in 1:12 scale? Thank for sharing all of you wonderful knowledge and creativity.

Thank you so much! I appreciate that! I have not made my own dolls but it is a goal of mine to learn this year. They are so expensive to buy, if you can find them at all. I have made a couple of basic clothing items but I will need to figure that out too. This dollhouse I am working on now, has a huge walk in closet so I will need to fill it!

Hi Penny, Wow you did a fantastic job on the hutch. Your instructions were so easy to follow so am hoping to make it soon. I also just finished watching you make the wood stove. Again you did an excellent job. The wood stove I have to make is slightly different but I managed to find a photo of it and I hope I do as well as you did. Our stories are so similar including your homestead. My grandfather built their house in the twenties. My mother was born in 1929. They did not have electricity so no refrigerator as well. I will have to make their cooling appliance (a Coolgardie safe). Thank goodness for the internet. Mum tried to explain what it looked like and it sounded so weird but she was hundred percent right with her explanation. Still having trouble on starting the cut out of the house. I also watched your tutorial for that (again so good) but as it was cut into the side of the hill I am wondering how to do it. The back of the house is flat on the ground but the front is higher with steps going to the front door. I didn’t want to make the whole house too big because of lack of space but don’t think I will have a choice as will have to build an area around the house to replicate the hill. Oh dear I don’t think I am making sense. Am I too old to start making my first dollhouse at 68. In my head it sounds easy but not so when you try and make a start. 🤔🙄😳 LOL. Hi Robyn! Thank you so much for your kind comments and for watching the videos! I love that we share a similar story. Those homesteaders were a hardy bunch and endured a lot of hardships to raise their families. I am fairly sure that my grandparents home did not have electricity until the 50’s or even the 60’s. I wonder now what they used to keep things cold before that. Your Mom’s house sounds very interesting! I’m sure building it into a hill kept it warmer in the winter, and cooler in the summer! In my most humble opinion, we are never too old to start something new. If I can be so bold as to offer some advice, it is to have grace with yourself. Nothing comes out perfect the first time so enjoy the journey while you learn. Building my grandma’s house was so therapeutic for me and took me on a lovely trip down memory lane, so I hope you decide to do your house! Really nice work. I am also following little Gretchen's workshop, she's restoring an old house to make a Rooming/Boardinghouse. She has built a cupboard similar to this, but also has a pantry room next to the kitchen. Seems like you would need a pantry, and a root cellar, to keep all that food you preserved or put up to get through the winters.

Love the cabinet very well made. I’m looking forward to seeing some of your other videos. Thank you for sharing 🤗🤗🤗 The glue that you are using you can add a drop of water to it but use bottle water rather than tap water just at a few drops at a time until it’s the consistency of what you like it to be. The beauty of wood glue is it’s a water base glue. I buy my glue in 4 Lt bottles and even with giving it a good shake the last part of my large bottle is very thick and so I always add water until it pours out of the large bottle.

Ich habe dich gestern gefunden und bin von deinen Sachen begeistert, leider bin ich mit der englischen Sprache nicht bewandert. So verstehe ich die Anleitung nicht. Really cute cupboard! For future reference 1.5mm wood is equivalent to (and sold in the US as) 1/16" thick wood. 0.8mm is equivalent to 1/32" wood. Thank you for a great video!

Very well done! What is the metal thing with holes? I have a metal work tray that I use with magnets when building furniture, etc. I just recently saw them on your Grey Tweed Sectional. Immediately I googled them, but no luck. 😊 I am planning to make that sectional in à camel Jersey wool or a Suede plaid. Your building method is quite different. I am going to follow your video and build it in the order that you did to see if it works for me. It sure looks much easier and should save time.

I remember the kitchen cabinets like that but I am probably older than you so remember back to the late 50s. I subscribed because you are a good storyteller and I can do with some help making things like this. I have a mini hand drill and usually put pin hinges in with it at the top and bottom of the doors. You explain it all really well, I will have to watch again to get all the measurements. This is really good!
