Building up Spring colonies

Feeding dilute sugar syrup in the Spring to compliment the pollen flow and colonies are building up fast. I opened some up about 10 days after reversing the brood chambers to find booming brood nests.

this is awesome as I had not watched this yet before I did my spring inspection, but it was encouraging to see that I was on the same page as you! I made sure the girls had food available even though spring is springing to help them achieve large numbers!

When you finally split the two hives, is it necessary to relocate the top weak hive temporarily and bring back for reorientation?

YES! Hope so. I went to the University of Newcastle back in 1979 and became an adopted geordie! Had season tickets ther before moving back to my Native USA in 2003.

Hi Peter. When you put a small colony on top of another. Should there be a queen excluder on the bottom hive box also? ie. Bottom, queen excluder. Middle, queen excluder, small cluster?

No one is sufficient (unless you arte already running a single brood chamber...I am not yet doing that.

I put out a barrel sugar... not one bee came by for syrup. Does that mean they dont need it? Or should I top feed?

Can be too cold or that they dont need it

Ha Peter enjoyed the video feels good to be back in the bees. question for u I have 3 hives 2 spotty 1 queen less ? they do not act like it but no eggs they had a cell should be laying now but not cant find the queens in the spotty hives if I droped a q cell in these hives would the bees replace there Q the 2 hives have q cups to replace but not charged with a egg. Your thought please I have seen u drop cells in hives late in the season that had a queen and u said the bees would work it out Thanks and have a blessed week

This only works if you are adding a charged queen cell.
