Do you wish that you could be paid for the energy you use rather than having to pay for it? David Shad is an engineer and futurist who has a solution to the worldwide energy crisis we are experiencing due to exponential population growth. His idea replaces current energy producing means with sustainable and environmentally friendly methods which ensure sufficient energy to power the world today and for years to come. Find out how David plans to turn the biggest culprit of the energy crisis into our greatest asset and how you can do your part to save our planet.
Fueled by a combination of family history and great passion, David Shad grew up knowing he wanted to be a world-class solution provider. Driven by his desire, he graduated from the University of Southern California, one of the nation’s top engineering schools. But he didn’t stop there-David has become a LEED Accredited Professional, achieved certification of ASHRAE’s Building Energy Modeling Professional, obtained his Commissioning Authority certification, and passed the Mechanical Professional Engineering Exam at age 24 making him one of the youngest to do so in the country. David has always had the desire to make the world a better place through his innovative visions. He is an active leader in the building community and wants to propel society forward by challenging his fellow millennials, the future leaders of the world.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

You must think in a different way if you don't pay for you energy includes heating, cooling, cooking, lights etc. and even drive your car with free energy will save you a lot of money every year. Think how much money you have more every month witch you can spend for a lot of other things for living.

Hey David. Great talk...even the awkward unicycle bits! LOL In regard to your assertion that we could live net zero energy plus, I would caution anyone who thinks that the excess energy production will always earn you a "check in the mail." Feed-in tariffs (or pay for your excess energy production fed into the grid) were once relatively high here (in Australia), but now have sunk dramatically. The economic reality is that as renewable energy production increases and eventually surpasses the mainline grid power production, the power companies simply cannot afford to pay for electricity that is fed back into the grid. It becomes a net sum loss for them. Some may applaud that and shout 'good riddance' to the power companies, but the [current] fact is that they provide an essential service that simply can't be discarded overnight. Lots of work to do, but stay on it! We're on the right track!

Remarkable hearing a singular solution to reduce, eliminate and eventually invert the current diminishing returns conservation of energy paradigm. I’m sure it already has a proper name or acronym. If OK with Mr. Shad, I’ll remember it as Unicycle Plus.

David Shad, This is a great concept, and I support educating the general population on the idea of building green; however, you failed to mention the challenges. Despite the advances in making green technology more marketable, a lot of building material and equipment required to make a net-zero home are still costly to the average consumer. Showing viewers the potential lifecycle cost savings could have been effective. In addition, builders still need to integrate into this movement. Design details can be more complex for these types of buildings, making the construction challenging; more experienced, competent, and specialty contractors need to enter the industry. Maybe - in theory - we would benefit from the consolidation of the building industry. Lastly, you should have mentioned the prevalent building standards used as "road maps" when building net-zero. We need consumers to understand what it entails to build green, not just the benefits. Thanks, Michael P. Donovan, Donovan Family of Companies
