3D print emergency shelter structures then wrap in plastic. People can hang clothing, pots and pans, LED lights, etc off the lattice work or tie a string across the structure to hang laundry to air dry. Perhaps that 3D structure wrapped in burlap with sand poured in the top would make a more effective Hesco barrier for military or flood control - print what you need on site. I think the 3D shaping would be great for artificial reef generation or the large aquarium market. Float makers (Mardi Gras, Rose Parade, Thanksgiving parade, etc) would go nuts for this ability to 3D print complex shapes.

What ads about 3D printing are never mentioning is the speed of printing.

Suggestion? Try printing from the ceiling downwards to avoid collapse/sag when hot. (Even small bends weaken compressive members but if printed in tension the beams are being straightened by tension) Hang robot from ceiling to increase print area

Connecting this with topology optiimalization for specific cases would be awesome. You would have scafolding made to be the best for certain problem (loads, stress etc.).

6 minute video and not one sequence of the printer working for more than 3 seconds. Couldn't you just let the camera stay on the printer without cutting so much? Over editing at its worst. Great tech though. Poorly presented.

Jack Wardrop From what I understand, I think the printing technology and process are competitive trade secrets. Maybe they didn't want to share too much in the movie?

That is exactly it, Why would I show you hours of print process perfecting, only to have it copied overnight by a competitor. You have to understand, robots are cheap, 3-5k in some instances for used, and the competition is stiff in this new era of printing with misc materials.

Yeah and what was that structure they built? Utterly useless. Show something interesting being printed.

I think it would be amazing if your company could also devop or help implement metods to produce 3D filaments from recicled plastic. There is no point in using plastic as buiding material if it is not made from recicled plastic.

What about using it to make a pourable concrete mold for it print in place for a house and use the plastic as infill in place of rebar and make the walls plastic pour the concrete in the voids and make a stronger more easier home to build

how can this scale up? Like this is cool for small architectural stuff, but can this be applied to high rise? I dont think so

Luckily it is allowed to mix that buildings composite with spacialy printed skeleton with ordinary triangles known from GPU rendering algorithms.

Thought of this so long ago for cheap bikes.. have you tried printing a bike ? Remember a new battery from university in australia made of flame retardant gel they were thinking of building into concrete wall would work perfect in this application becoming part of the composite.. hmm used to be a video with a demonstration wall seems to have been taken down or made private all i could find > www.startupdaily.net/2016/04/uk-firm-armstrong-energy-makes-11-million-commitment-sydney-renewables-startup-gelion/

Ugh these bullshit "German engineering!" comments are annoying. Ya, it's great to see that Germans are capable of creating technology like every other nation. Almost every single KUKA video, I find someone talking about how impressive German engineering is. Ya'll aren't the master race anymore, kiddo.
