Just working through some of the vids on this channel and this right here is why I went ahead and got the PDC01, it'll run stuff like this fan for way longer and it monitors the battery voltages itself if I'm using adapters or dumb tools like the DML801 LED torch. Aside for 40V capability for an 18V chump like me, of course. I'll note that my PDC01 spoils the surprise and has the 40V logo on the front.

That's where the battery protection circuitry in Makita batteries comes in handy. I use Makita LXT batteries with a few Ryobi tools (pole saw, belt sander) and the Makita battery disconnects when the voltage gets too low. Might we worth an experiment with Makita batteries, a battery adapter and your Makita battery tester.

I have had a similar experience with Makita batteries, an adapter tans ryobi tool. The specific scenario is the Ryobi power inverter powering my car cooler. Perhaps I have been lucky, and Hopefully I havent jinxed myself, but I haven't had an issue.

The Ryobi floor dryer is great. I use it for drying carpets and area rugs after shampooing them.

Good method, car battery charger has low enough voltage and charging current so it won't do any damage to depleted 18v pack. I would also recommend leaving the battery on the oem charger overnight so the cells can balance (there is a greater chance they go out of balance when they discharge so low)

It's worth getting an inexpensive DC power supply for situations like this, especially if you are in multiple platforms with different voltages. Ryobi batteries are pretty inexpensive and are available on sale often, at least in the US. It's a useful platform because they make some unique products, and is worth having some batteries on hand rather than risk damaging more expensive batteries, IMO. That being said, I do use an adapter like that for a couple older tools whose battery platform is obsolete, just to buy a couple more years before replacing the lesser used tools

i tried this with a couple of Dead (both had 4volts) 14.4v DeWalt packs i was given. i dismantled and checked the individual cells and one was fully charged and the other 3 munted, assume cactus. jump started one successfully as you did (took only a couple of mins to get volts up for the charger to kick in.(cells not hot, all came up in volts). the other pack was a different story, started getting warm fast, one cell was overcharging i think, as the others weren't coming up at all. (60 seconds ish on charge, and the DeWalt charger didn't accept it still.) definitely need to be cautious of the jump start trick i think. not sure if the first pack will be "good" again, but it's happily charging (gave it a 2hr rest before putting it back on the charger, in case something was hot)

Ouch, 5v at a 5S pack is way below the probably dead and dangerous level. Hope it works out for you, but the cells most likely have some internal damage. Would keep that pack in an explosion containing dog dish for sure.

I've got a few of these adapters now, I didn't even think about leaving the battery in the adapter (knew about removing from the tool, but I just remembered the makita to dewalt adapter has a chip in it for the tool to accept it also) surprisingly or not, there's no mention of this or not running the batteries flat in any of the adapters i've bought so far. so it's definitely a risk of many dead batteries with each one sold.

I use a B6 Lipo battery charger to revive my buggered batteries. Gives you options Lipo/LiFe/ NiMH/NiCd. Same way you have done it. NiMH for 5min usually works.

I still take the risk with the adapters. Having batteries for every plattform is too expensive for me. I just make sure not to empty them completely while using them.

I just found the 18v blower available in my country, but it is 159€ while the 40v one is 130, so i might wait to se if it goes down a bit. I guess this comment has nothing to do with the video.🤷‍♂️
