What would you do if you hypothetically wanted to knock the outer wall of the room out? 3:30 would you put a counter beam running perpendicular to break the span of the joist?
@Buildsum Жыл бұрын
Hi Mate, in this case the joist will span the extra distance with out the wall like they do in the room adjancent otherwise, yes you would have to put in a hanging beam to increase the span of the joists or increase the size of the joists.

hello sir, can I ask please, I have a corridor running down the length on my timber frame building. 1 metre wide, exactly in centre. Can I lap the joints between this corridor if I nail the whole length of the lap? If not, what do you recommend? many thanks
@Buildsum5 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, the joists have to be joined over a point of support, so I would use longer lengths on one side than the other so they can join over on of the walls

@@Buildsum , you are so good. I didn't think you would reply after so long. My issue is the joist were ordered quite a while ago and now the supplier will not exchange them. The joists are 4.8 metres. The span is 4.2 metres to each nearest wall or 5.2 metres to each furthest wall. I am not sure what to do?
@Buildsum5 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, sorry to say but you are going to have to put another piece over the corridor from one wall to the other. I would cut 1.2m lengths and run them in next to the long joists lapping them over the corridor wall. You could cut the long joists back to 4.5m but it is not necessary. Hope this helps.

Buildsum is it a easy program to use ?
@Buildsum7 жыл бұрын
I think it is although I did use AutoCad before switching to SketchUp however I have had students pick it up pretty quickly with just a little bit of instruction
