Sometimes people look at these works and say oh pretty, and don't even think about the skill it takes to do these things or REALLY appreciate the work. 🔥👌

I've never been as nervous watching you, as the hours invested went up, so did my heart rate, especially when the router came out!! The time invested, the outright talent applied, I will NEVER not stop and investigate, whenever I see a monkey tail at the bottom of a set of stairs again. An absolutely jaw dropping education!! Outstanding!!

Hi Bradley a couple of ways some times the Tormek wet stone system but most of the time three Japanese wet stones 1000, 4000 and 8000 gives a better edge to the chisel and the thick plane blades which are below explained All the best Tony 👍 Veritas offers top-quality replacement blades for other manufacturers’ planes (e.g., Stanley, Record, Anant) in A2, O1 or PM-V11 tool steel. All are lapped on the face side to a flatness tolerance of 0.0005 inch (0.013 mm) or better, with an average roughness (Ra) of 5 microinches (0.000005 inch = 0.00013 mm) or better. The Veritas bench plane blades are 0.100 inch (2.54 mm) thick, 25% thicker than the industry standard of 0.080 inch (2.03 mm. Increased thickness reduces chatter. All are 7 inch (178 mm) long, have a 30° bevel and fit almost all makes of the plane sizes listed. Due to minor manufacturing variations over the last century, the pawl on the end of the lateral adjust lever on older planes may have to be filed slightly to fit in the blade slot.

What you're calling a "monkey tale" is more correctly termed a volute or scroll. A monkey has a tail the curls-up in a vertical plane and that's an entirely different kind of handrail terminal, fitting. Carving these things out of a single block is something definitely common in the 1800's, but only rarely seen today. Nice work.
