Hi Tony great videos,when I done my apprenticeship in north London in 1986,there was two old joiners who all they ever done was wreathed,tangential handrails,monkey tails and the like.big pieces of mahogany a big bandsaw and razor sharp hand tools v little power tools. Mostly they would have a few measurements a couple of angles and away they would go,nearly all done by eye,never saw one come back wrong.they would always say if it looks right then it is right.not many left with theses kind of skills sadly.👍

That's just next level shit! I've seen loads of these on big houses I've worked on and never knew what they were called, let alone the painstaking work that must have gone into producing them. Great to see the monkey tail been fabricated the traditional way. The CNC has taken over I'm afraid and not enough time been spent passing on the traditional joinery fundamentals and knowledge to the apprentices.

Wow now we are into the stuff i was brought up with, so existing to see proper joinery but it was in the day a separate job, stair case building and hand railing not the sort of thing that’s common now. Hopefully Tony you are passing it on to a younger face to face.

Makes you think of the mind-boggling amount of man-hours locked up in British housing stock - before power tools... Staircases were serious status symbols. Even attempted in CADCAM the compound curve geometry is highly complex. Probably derived from those Greek ionic order capitals.
