I have to be completely honest...when I first saw you I thought "Oh, another entitled, self centered, self serving, Yoga teacher." I was wrong! You are smart, have GREAT advice, helpful, and down to earth in a fancy, L.A. girl kind of way. I enjoy the subject matter, you speak in a clear concise manner, you are focused, and I enjoyed your advice! So, sorry for the pre-judging...I'm working on it! Great job, thank you for your service. In August I'll be doing a YTT and I'm SOO excited to share this precious art to others. I already have a background in psychology and energy healing, and these topics of money/worth always come up. Anyway, the more I love & honor myself, the more it reflects in my self-confidence. It's so true when you start charging you worth, clients in your same frequency will gravitate towards you!! So beautiful! Thank you so much for your beautiful presence here. People around you must be very lucky! You are the definition of inspiration and empowerment. These are the questions that I seek answers to... As a beginner yoga teacher I want to know... How to build a SOLID following? How to keep my clients? What price should I charge for group sessions? Should I charge for one group session or have monthly rates and what should those be? How do I analyze the area I'm living in to cater to what people are looking for? What are the typical mistakes yoga teachers make when they're starting? What are the typical mistakes yoga teachers make when they are growing (i.e. need to expand)? How do I market myself? Where do I market myself locally, regionally and nationally? How do I ROCK a yoga session in my clients' eyes?
@buildyouryogabiz8 жыл бұрын
This is incredible feedback! Thank you. I will address all of these topics in separate videos. All so important! For now, start with discovering exactly what it is you want to do. What is your unique style/asset? Why would someone want to take yoga from you as opposed to another teacher? Becoming increasingly clear with your unique gifts will help attract solid loyal students and clients.

Right now I'm having to rent a yoga studio space for $35 (there was a technical error because the general charge is actually $50) because I travel and can't bring props with me.... The yoga studio is allowing me to rent the space for $35 and expecting a 80/20 cut on top of that. I jumped the gun the second someone reached out to me about private session options and I told them $55... It looks like in the end I will make $9.00 after everything is said and done. Ugh. But it is a learning experience starting out. I'm just excited to teach a private session and get paid for it.
@buildyouryogabiz3 жыл бұрын
Hey Samantha. I feel you, and it’s awesome that you’re able to see it as a learning experience because IT IS! And it’s great that you’re stepping into the world of teaching privates. I’m wondering : is it $35 per hour, in addition to the 80/20 cut? It feels a bit pricey but if that’s the space you feel called to teach your privates then I definitely suggest raising your prices to a place where the profit you make feels inspiring and like a balanced energy exchange. You deserve that. And private yoga is super valuable! Let me know how it goes!

Great Video! Deffo gonna offer free 1-on-1 first and build from there. What is your thoughts about teaching young males? (20-40's?), do you get a little anxious about going over their house? What do you do to protect yourself because these things can happen right? Also, what is your thoughts about not having a 200RYT under your belt but still offering 1-on-1's. I've been practicing yoga for 2 and a half years now and been teaching for about 2 so I got into quite quickly. Do your clients ask "now before we start are you qualified missy?" or do they just trust you? I am insured as I currently teach class yoga and have quite a good following on social media. Let me know your thoughts, thankyou :)
@buildyouryogabiz8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment Danni! I appreciate your question regarding going to people's houses and that brings up a very good point. First off, I do not take any client that desires my services, and if I don't feel comfortable (usually it's strong intuition) then I will politely refuse to teach at their house. Also, if you don't know the person well or they contact you online, I would suggest setting up a Skype or FaceTime video call or even meeting briefly in person at a public place to get a feel for their energy. I do have many male clients who are wonderful, and I have also experienced some creepy people! I hope this helps!

My yoga instructor wad telling me about applying for a loan. He got an unfavorable response when they saw the "yoga instructor" response on the application. I don't think that people see this as a business. There is a healing/seva approach that people want to see. They don't (want) see there is a pay the bills at the end of the day side. In people's minds they see yoga teachers differently than landlords. Yes I am in it for the healing, but I.am.also to be seen as a creditor. This is a pay to play sitation.

@buildyouryogabiz5 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you for your wonderful message. I suggest cold calling for corporate clients. Have a resume and workshop description handy to send prospective corporations/clients. What a wonderful avenue to want to grow! Corporate wellness is up and coming and so necessary. Take some time to brainstorm your ideal corporate session. What would you do if you had one hour? Maybe you offer a brief talk about yoga and its benefits, then offer some breathing practices and then some gentle yoga. You get to use your creativity. And the audience is different than teaching in a regular studio. Best of luck!

Hi , I taught many classes at the studios with one person sighed up . I do like focus on small number of students . How would these classes be any different from the private session ? One of my client approached me and asked for private sessions after she took my classes .Thank you .
@buildyouryogabiz2 жыл бұрын
Hey Marina! This is a great question. This has happened to me in the past, when only one person shows up for a group class. Ultimately, you are technically teaching a private but you are not getting paid as you would for a private class. A private class is a class that you plan to teach one on one and you customize the teachings to your client. For example, you may send your student some sort of an intake form beforehand to get clear on their goals and yoga experience, etc. So basically what you taught was a default private class, but it was meant to be a group class. So your student got lucky! I think that’s great that your student asked about private sessions and I would say go for it! Just know you can charge a lot more money for a private session since there is tremendous value in guiding one on one. I share about this in depth in THRIVE: www.buildyouryogabiz.com/thrive I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. Have a beautiful day🤗

Very helpful! Do you charge double when the private class is for a couple ?
@buildyouryogabiz7 жыл бұрын
Hey Malu! Great question.. I used to have different price points based on the number of people. Now, I charge my hourly rate no matter what. If there are over 10 people I will adjust it. I actually find it's easier to teach two people than just one person so I keep the same rate per hour regardless. There's no 'right' or 'wrong' way to charge, so try a few different price points out and feel which one makes the most sense to your teaching. Namaste!

Thanks for the great video! I've been changing countries and my question is: how can I or how do I find people to give them private classes? Should I first go to yoga studio to let people know me? Or do I promote myself from the very beginning as yoga teacher giving private classes? I was living in Mexico, so I was teaching at yoga studio, but I couldn't get further than that. And now I'd really love to give only private classes.
@buildyouryogabiz7 жыл бұрын
Hi Iryna! Thank you for your message. You ask a great question. My suggestion would be to reach out to yoga studios before you arrive in your next country so you can get the ball rolling beforehand. I think you should definitely tell people you specialize in private classes, if that is your goal. Also, it might be a good idea to print some postcards that feature you as a private yoga instructor and then have a list of local studios, health food stores, spas, etc. to leave your cards at. Also, social media is a phenomenal tool for making connections and getting your name out there even before you arrive at a new destination. I say try all of these methods. Let me know how this sounds!

@buildyouryogabiz7 жыл бұрын
Hi Manisha. What is your Native language? And where do you live? If there are other people in your area that speak your native language, perhaps you can offer a special class in a different language. I used to take yoga classes in Spanish when I lived in Costa Rica and I must say, I understood most of the class and my Spanish is no bueno! If you are teaching English speaking people, you may choose to incorporate more demonstrations when you are teaching or invest in some English classes as continued education for your career as a yoga teacher. :-) Let me know how this sounds! Thank you for your great question.
