Flat four engines sound so disgustingly tough, I always find myself coming back to Subi vids after watching v12’s/v10’s screaming all day. The thing about flat fours is when they are revving at WOT, every shift sounds like a literal explosion of power. Exotic cars can’t replicate that.

It’s because they have garbage motors and 90% of them blow up under 80,000 miles. Mine needed a motor at 27k miles due to rod knock.

Nicolas Roulin You blip the throttle when you downshift so that the rpms go up to match the lower gear you're shifting into.

venting to atmosphere is more of cool thing not a performance i believe it has to do with the tmic u cant but if u get a fmic u can

Billy Bob he's talking about the waste gate not the BOV. And the sound of the BOV depends on the BOV, not the location of the intercooler or if you're talking about the "stustustu" noise after the throttle is released that is just turbo flutter when no BOV is installed. To answer datstocklyfe, generally "built" subies have an external waste gate and you can hear that open quite loudly and it sounds like an actual flutter. that is the wastegate opening and closing rapidly from the boost control solenoid, there are differnent styles but the one I believe you are thinking of is what is known as a "3 port" look into them if you like.
