In this video I start on a new project to build a built in, floor to ceiling bathroom cabinet as part of our bathroom renovation in our 1930s bungalow. There was an old cabinet here with mirror doors and I wanted to give the cabinet more depth for additional storage space and also improve it aesthetically, as it was a real eye sore! I use construction timber and birch plywood for the face frame.

Great job. It is amazing how some would look at a before and after picture and think 'oh, a relatively small job' but in reality there is a lot that has gone into it. I need to do similar 'small' jobs boxing in some bathroom pipework, build a cupboard to box in the boiler and UFH manifolds in the garage, etc. Just waiting for some new tools to help the process. :)

@@RagnBoneBrown Thank you for including the clip of the slotted screw repeatedly camming out. I feel better knowing it's not just me that happens to. The screws are often too tough to unscrew by hand but the impact driver doesn't offer the same degree of control. I despise those screws!

Too late now Keith, but you missed an opportunity for a little extra storage space. Many moons ago I lived in a terrace house with fireplaces in a few of the bedrooms. I turned the alcoves into fitted wardrobes, and cleaned up the fireplace to a decent size. Lined, and then fitted a set of drawers. So far, so good. I love DIY, but have done everything I need to in my house years ago, so now just cabinets to order 😎

Cheers Peter, that would have been cool, although to be honest we have so much space in the room that we'll have more storage than we're ever likely to need! I miss that feeling of having done everything! But I guess if I didn't have lots to work on, I'd be itching for a new project!

I’m surprised you did all that framework/trim work before dealing with that whole in the wall (chimney?). A lot of television renovation shows end up with nightmare problems sealing up or closing things like that. I sincerely hope you complete this project problem free, but I would have thought the hole should have been addressed first. (This is just my amateur opinion.)
@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what problems you are referring to. The hole in the wall was ventilated (via the skirting board) since we've lived here, and I'm going to be boxing in the bottom part, and adding a vent to that later, so there's not really any change in situation. The only potential problem I'm aware of is from moisture build up from lack of ventilation, and even though I'll be adding a vent, I'm not sure that it is even needed in this situation as there's no longer a chimney on our roof anyway... Hopefully someone who knows more about this stuff that I do will provide some wisdom!

@@RagnBoneBrown thanks for clarifying. I’m glad it’s not a problem. The opening in the wall looks a lot more “threatening” and “troublesome” that apparently it is. Apologies.
