Thanks for the detailed and fair appraisal. I was expecting it to be pretty bad - but, honestly, it's light years better than my first electric guitar back in the '70s. As you say, it's great for beginners - and it has other possibilities too, given the limitations of the speaker. I can see this as the beginning of a new trend. Give it a few years and we may well see some shockingly good audio quality developments with a built-in speaker that demand to be taken seriously by experienced players.

They HAVE to develope the internal hardware so one has a big number of presets AND that one can switch on effect/pedal parts in the patches. This means changing their one button system for the hardware modeling and getting some sort of mini screen on the top side of the guitar. Main volume needs to be at pinky position always for swells. When it becomes this kind of straight into the PA system guitar, meant for real gigging but with smaller/simpler needs, then the concept is mature and the market is huge because most play very small venues and don't want or need max amounts of gear, they just want something that works decently without sounding cheap either.

I picked one up about a month ago for both travel, and just noodling around. No need to fire up an map, plug everything in, set the pedals...etc. Just grab it, turn it on, and off you go! It's great for that. Jam sessions and fireside songs, it's great. Hey, Zaphod only has one head! What's up? Oh, this is back in the Arthur Dent days, when he lost his girlfriend to Zaphod, before the Earth destroyed.

I already own the acoustic version, and it stays in tune like ... forever, no matter you play it outside in the winter or during the summer. I let it as a spare guitar in my family house, I don't play it during 2 or 3 months and however, when you take it out of the bag, it is still in tune !!! so okay, It won't replace the PRS and the Boogie amp, but it is a very convincing product !!!!

Hi Henning, it is a start of something new. I imagine the next version(s) will have more speakers and therefore a much better sound. I don't understand why they would start with only one speaker when it distorts so easily... Software upgrades on the other hand are a given. :) Good review, thanks! BR, M

Even if you never play this thing in public, no one will ever regret having such a flexible _tool_ around. Living room, bedroom - an all-in-one solution, nothing to trip over. If you feel inspired to play electric, there's no faster way to be doing it (with an adequate sound) than just grabbing this thing and immediately playing with the basic effects of your choice. All alternatives involve a clutter of amps & cables & pedals & stuff to lose/misplace. And as a tour bus or dressing room warm up machine, it can't be beat.

Hi Henning, how did you manage to stream music to the guitar? My Samsung S9 sees the guitar (Blutooth), but when I try to pair it I get a message saying that to use the device I need an app. With the Enya Nova Go Sp1 (basically the acoustic sister, I dodn´t encounter the problem and I could stream music or use the drum machine. Maybe my phone is too old?

I think as an electric setup it seems good for practice stuff, for the acoustics with the speakers/exciters (like hyvibe) built into their bodies I think we are looking at a serious evolution of the acoustic guitar. I can't wait to see conversion kits for the acoustics out there with built in preamp piezos to add in exciters and effects!

why not make it where the speaker can detach from the guitar eliminating the speaker/string vibrations. change the headstock style to a prs/schecter style for better tuning. add inlays. for the detachable speaker make the guitar thicker and the whole back is the speaker.

Honestly, you really can't fault the built in amp for distorting at maximum volume. How many amplifiers of any type remain clean at that setting? The amplifier is rated at 10 watts, but the distortion % at that power isn't specified, so in my experience, the clean output (and associated volume) is closer to 3 watts at an RMS level. And considering the limited size of the internal speaker, the guitar is doing quite well. Of course this is my opinion, so feel free to tear me to shreds for having my own thoughts on this guitar. Your turn.

So, we were intrigued by this. It solved many common complaints. We wanted a portable, rugged guitar that we could travel with. Something inexpensive that we weren't emotionally attached to. I wouldn't be too upset if it was left outside after an evening of campfire, strumming and singing. So, the phone is always listening. Amazon offered me $60 off. I figured, why not. So, the guitar works exactly as you say. Fine to pick up and strum on for a few minutes while the wife is getting ready. Throw it in the back of the truck. Sit on the tailgate and play for a few minutes during lunch. It does what they say. Thank you for the honest appraisal.

These remind me of the guitars one would find in department stores as the toy/beginner guitar level invention with the speakers built into the body when I was a kid. Taking an older idea and making it an actual playable guitar is a nice evolutionary step. Comes with an interesting strap and being Carbon fiber very light also. Not a bad start for someone. Doesn’t sound bad.

While I do agree w Henning's 2 cents, I think ignoring the material (carbon fiber thru & thru, r u freakin' kiddin' me) is a bit of an oversight. IMHO, in terms of weight, & tuning stability, it's a huge plus. As a mod platform (e.g. Schaller M6 locking fit perfectly, or pickup change) & as a travel/couch guitar, this thing is awesome, and for the $349 introductory price, it's a no brainer, MY 2 cents.

Great starter guitar or just something different for seasoned players. I have too much gear already and no interest adding to the GAS collection. @CBRentXX4 ай бұрын
Actual Enya owner here... So, my professional opinion is the guitar is carbon fiber filled ABS. It *is* plastic. Many things are added to injection molded plastic to make it stiffer. Usually it is fiberglass. But carbon fiber works too and it sounds sexy in marketing ads. It is not the carbon fiber fabric weave you see on some of their acoustic guitars.

@@Case_ Indeed. It was inevitable with things like CF and other molded materials that their use in instruments like guitar would reach a good level of both competence and price. I'm not trading my Ibanez or Suhr axes for this thing. But honestly, this thing seems suprisingly competent across the board. Henning and Phil McKnight are on point with this one. It's not hot garbage - objectively not. And look, I miss rotary phones sometimes too, but time and progress never stops. Though I obviously have not touched this axe, all indications so far from folks I mostly trust seem to conclude that this one is worthy of some consideration for the right use cases. Drop the price on this puppy to 300USD and hell, I might really be tempted to give it a whirl. Props for bringing the old combo guitar/speaker thing back in some pretty interesting and useful ways through tech. But one thing stayed the same: that built in speaker is still mostly trash, though, as Henning pointed out, perfectly fine for beginning players. PEACE!
