Hey Chris, I'm 16 a junior in high school in Prineville Oregon, wildland fire fighting has had my attention for years now, I just don't know the requirements I need, and how to join, if you have any advice I would love to hear it, also crew 30 seems like an amazing crew, you guys look welcoming and I can tell you all have a strong bond, keep it up!

Awesome man! Prineville is rad. It's a very rewarding career and teaches you a lot on a personal level. For entry level you'll need a few classes like s130 and s190 and some fema certs. All easy to obtain. Pass your arduous pack test and you'll be gravy. Find a good crew to start with either hotshots or a crew like ours. Contract crews on the otherhand can be good if you want to do it for a few months at a time. Be a student of fire and a sponge to learn as much as you can and stay fit. I wish I started right when I got out of hs so you've got a head start

Why the high stumps?

Fire damaged burnt out lower in the stump, cut where there is good wood. And we're not cutting for board feet or production. So cut where it's comfortable for hazard trees
