Wow... what an amazing Neil Young cover. Each riff tells a story like the original one. Just wonderful and emotional! Love it. Thanks for sharing.

Comic Sans FTW. Comic Sans is ALWAYS appropriate (excepting those times requiring wingdings, or, of course, ASCII).

Listening to this on the home stretch of a small road trip. It's great to zone out/vibe to. Also makes one yearn for that bucolic society that's described, yet sadly taken... A perfect good destroyed by a perfect evil.

I've always loved the Dave Matthews and Warren Haynes version. Neil young and crazy horse wrote it, and I play their version the most. This version also rocks hard!!!!!!!!!!!! I will surely start playing this more. It's my first listen. Wow. Built to spill has always been a great band to me, and I never realized how much the singer sounds like Neil young! My favorite part about this version is the transitions between the verse/chorus/ect.

I have to say, as much as I love this song it's quite inaccurate. It paints the Aztecs as "noble savages" living without war or hate. Quite the opposite, really. The Aztecs brutally controlled the surrounding tribes. The reason Cortes so easily defeated them is that he was able to raise thousands of Indian allies against the hated Aztecs. Cortes certainly was a killer, though. Still one of my favorite songs anyway.
@Dan-yh4uz8 жыл бұрын
old comment, but yeah would've been far more fitting to tell a general story of native lands being destroyed by Europeans than a specific example especially of the Aztec and not the Inca
@politicaltroll89207 жыл бұрын
LetThePoorStarve This was written by Neil when he was in high school so he may have been a bit naive. Or there is a slight possibility that the way the Aztecs were portrayed was a sarcastic caricature of someone who would be that naive
@marthabarrett91337 жыл бұрын
Whatever you feel about the politics of this song - how about a more central venue than The Thalia Center when you come into Chicago, BTS? When you coming to NY? Or the Capitol, Port Chester? You ROCK
@kolinevans91277 жыл бұрын
judge not lest thy be judged - in the same way we can paint 'western civilization' - decades of wars basically animals is how they will be painted when they are wiped out like the Aztec yet here you are believing you are civilized. : D
@rocknfan1006 жыл бұрын
How do you purpose to know the 'sentiment' of indigenous people who lived in what we now call 'Mexico' from AD 1300 through AD 1500 and NEVER wrote down a single piece of historical documentation ...let alone the 'thousands' of documents that would be required to support your 'theory'. To act like you can know this is preposterous ! All 'documentation' of the Aztecs comes from the Spanish Priests and conquistadors, you know, the conquerors, the ones who gained' from the annihilation of their culture and then 'interviewed' people who didn't speak the Spanish language. To think that a ruling tribe who established such an advanced civilization wouldn't have some enemies is ludicrous. It is well documented by the priests that Cortez had No Easy March to Tenochtitlan I He was damn near quashed, early on, but fortunately (for him) the diseases that his men carried would be able to be used as to kill thousands of natives. Neil Young's 'interpretation' is as viable as anything proposed since AD 1521. Because it evokes so many images and possibilities it deserves equitable affirmation !
