Aaaaaaahhhh hahahahaha I am just reading your comment Lucas Smith.....oh man, I feel bad!!! I am not going to lie to you, brother: it was GODDAMN FUCKING BATSHIT AWESOME to have been there when this happened, to have heard this the week it came out. Don't get it twisted, I have many MUCH MORE intelligent and thoughtful and plugged-in and music loving friends who made it possible for me to have been a part of BTS when they hit. If it wasn't for my friends, I would have missed them. Entirely. No lie. TL;DR: be true to your friends.

BRENT DANZIG I was true to my friends. They weren’t true to me. Most of them anyway. It’s bitter medicine to know the people who cried on your shoulder were purposefully absent when it was your turn to drink from the cup soul sick sadness infinitum, there in the darkness, alone, listening to the song that you are not welcome to sing any more.

Every September this album scratches at me. Got turned onto it in the fall I think. I remember the first time I saw them in 93 I literally thought I was watching Jimi Hendrix reincarnated. I took it so personally and believed I was privy the best secret scene in the world at least in that year. Tri-Cities, WA 1993. Man the local scene was out of control and greatly to the influence of Treepeople etc...
@travispetkovits99444 жыл бұрын
Do you remember a band called Small, Tri-Cities circa '92? Used to see them all the time at the OK Hotel in Seattle.

Before BTS guitar player Brett Netson was in Caustic Resin, before that he did a stint as the guitar player for a band called "The Pugs" in Boise, Idaho and during that short period they played an insane cover of Jimi Hendrix - Purple Rain while Brett was on acid and he did the most insane guitar solo, I'm pretty sure it lasted 5 minutes. I had a recording of it that I pretty much wore out back then. I think I might still have the tape but it's broken. Sounds like you would have really appreciated that. I saved many recordings of Brett because I really thought someday he could be the next Jimi Hendrix lol.

Yes -- great, great album! I first heard this one in the late 90's, loved it -- and yet somehow it always surprises me when I spin it again. That sweet little acoustic guitar outro at the end of "Shameful Dread" is a perfect example of why I love it. They threw everything but the kitchen sink at this recording and it all hits home. And the cover photo is hilarious....

"The First Song" My thoughts are commodities My lies are me My price is a compromise My pay is peace And words just make it worse They're misunderstood, see just like there If you can't spell it out, if it's just understood Then you think it isn't there I make my mind up Convince my brain I lie on accident Trying to explain But all the things that I was told All the people that told me How can I not believe in things that Everyone else sees? "Three Years Ago Today" The other night I dreamt about a sudden realization That everything bad that can happen to me would Woke up screaming, God I hope I'm not bleeding Out my eyes or mouth when I die I have seen a sheepish wonder I see me three years ago today No one's gonna push my buttons No one's gonna have their say A little while later I was trying to remember But then it didn't seem quite as awful as it seemed Can't believe I won't admit that I have seen a sheepish wonder I see me three years ago today No one's gonna push my buttons No one's gonna have their way Feel about the same but I'm 10 years older Watched my cat die for a month now I have seen a sheepish wonder I saw you earlier today "Revolution" I'm killing time Want it all the time Want it to go away I'm stealin' time Want time all the time Or want it to go away Revolution Revolution Revolution Revolution How come people don't fuck it up? I've been listening to this album for years and never noticed at 14:17 on Shameful Dread how well the guitar with the whammy bar flows with the vocals as he's singing it, and creates extra notes afterwards, entirely with the whammy bar, which if you play guitar you know how hard that is to do, especially to make it sound that good. I don't know who played that part but that is so sick.
