Thanks a lot for this cheer-up! I am currently preparing for a head-removal because the machine gets too warm, presumably because of a clogged cooling water channel. Keeping fingers crossed!

What was your solution to this - just gaskets and a head refurb or did you have to replace the damaged piston?

We ended up getting the head skimmed, injectors serviced, new piston rings, all done in Stormowsy. Dirty fuel I think was.main culprit.

Ah you just need to get the head refurbished and new gasket etc. Looks like you can leave the bottom end in though right? devprecisionengineers.co.uk/ are good for gaskets and valves (way cheaper than BUKH OEM parts).

We got the gasket pack from T.morris marine. Its the bukh gaskets. We had an engineer jump on our boat in Holyhead and get started on the work, really happy about it. He taught us fair bit at the same time.

@@Multiverse27 I'm just after rebuilding my DV20 myself (no real experience of doing this before!). Think you're best get a pro as lots of work and constant fear it's going to pop on ya!!! Google the Workshop manual PDF ... it's really good.

@@Multiverse27 also I'm planning on replacing my waterpump with this: www.aquafax.co.uk/products/f35b-9-pump-fits-many-makes-of-engine-10-35157-3 because there is no risk of water seeping into the crank case .. a guy in the Bukh Facebook group recommended it. (It's about 200euro)

@@mikecunneen2408 thanks for your message. We had a diesel leak from around an injector / banjo which we've managed to stop. Looking good now. Been in Holyhead for about 8 days now so superhero to get going. Happy to get the work done. Engineer recommends we lift the engine in winter and check cylinder and piston rings etc. Also give me a chance to clean out that part of the bilge.
